Bracket Observations

Whether you agree or not here are some basic observations from glancing over the bracket:
1. LSU got hosed going into Supers if they have to play Rice. They are always a tough matchup but compared to some of the others its a gimmick.
2. Florida should never have been considered an 8 seed. Georgia Tech got a gift into Omaha.
3. I'm sorry but LSU should have been at least the second overall seed considering what they accomplished. Its a slap in the face. Looks like the SEC can get no better than a 3 regardless of year.
4. Florida St. should have gotten the 8th seed. They are now matched with Georgia and Ohio St. which some considered a threat for a two seed themselves.
5. Coastal Carolina, who I've been propping since I started posting, drew a horrible regional: North Carolina's. I was hoping they could squeeze into the ECU or worst case shipped off to Louisville.

I don't think Georgia Tech is going to make it out of Atlanta. I think Elon has a very good chance to win that regional.

All three of those teams would walk through the Louisville Regional

I thought Tulsa and UTEP really had a chance too.

Elon has a good team and they could threaten but I can't believe Florida is considered the top contender from that grouping. They have no pitching and hitting has been marginal at best.
LSU should have gotten the number one seed overall. Its a tough arguement to tell me Texas or Cal State deserved it more than LSU. Looks like tradition ruled out in these seeds.

1. Not really screwed. It sucks, but the committee said they were trying to match up regionals geographically. It's why Ft. Worth and Austin are matched up as well. Don't read too much into it.
2. Eh. GT probably would have made a better seed, but it's not like Florida is a chump team. The top teams in the SEC were a jumble, and UF was 7th in the RPI. Not really outraged.
3. PM should use it as a slap in the face, but I thought UCF was gonna be #1 overall and Texas had a good case for #1 as well. There were three teams all with a terrific profile. We got the 3. Honestly, it doesn't matter as long as you get a seed.
4. FSU could have been seeded but I'm not outraged by them not getting it. I consider it more of recognition that the SEC is the best conference, and we get 2 seeded teams.
5. Coastal's always pretty good. UNC is pretty awesome as well. Tough draw.

it's especially unfair considering the fact that the SEC hasn't won a national championship in almost 9 years ..

Easiest: Atlanta Regional and both California Regionals

I sense sarcasm but I think we found the one guy who probably wouldn't complain with LSU getting the 8 seed.

no, but this isn't football .. the SEC is not nationally dominant in baseball anymore .. the west coast has owned it nationally the last three seasons .. not surprised at all to see at least one west coast school in the top three seeds ... my comment was based on pure fact, your last response, pure sarcasm ..

what would have been the problem with getting the number 8 national seed? Nothing would have changed
Posted on 5/25/09 at 1:40 pm to josh336
i guess the douche can't understand the logic of my comment .. let's face it .. our non-conference schedule is pathetic and i can see our fans starting to demand at least one decent high-profile series at home a year in the future with ticket prices and whatnot ... so if our resume is based solely on our SEC body of work .. the SEC is not "idolized" nationally in baseball like it is in football ...
Posted on 5/25/09 at 1:41 pm to TigahRag
I agree with your point, but I think the SEC is very respected in baseball, we did get 8 teams into the field
Posted on 5/25/09 at 1:44 pm to josh336
i'm not saying that we don't garner any respect at all .. but it is not like in football when you hear very few people talk about weak non-conference schedules that SEC teams traditionally play in football because 8 games in the SEC is considered a brutal war and the champ should play for the national title ... once our program slipped a little under smoke, no one in the league really ever took the mantle over like we had it in the 90s ..

I have been harping on our awful non-conf schedule all year. There is no reason that we can't play at least one elite team from another region on a weekend and have a home and home with Rice for mid-week games to get rid of the Gramblings and Nicholls St's that hurt us even if we win. Fullerton will play us (as long as we make a return trip), Rice will play us in a home and home. It's our unwillingness to make return trips that kills our schedule
Posted on 5/25/09 at 1:47 pm to ProjectP2294
yeah .. i would actually not mind seeing some kind of rotation that has us play tough opponents both on the road and at home in the same season .. like rice at home and UCF on the road in year one and then flip flop the next year ... we need to drop the in-state school shite except for tulane, ULL, and UNO ... these are the only schools that are consistently on our level ... this frees up at least 6 dates right there ... i used to love the shite out of the busch/winn dixie challenge .. why don't we have something like that at zephyr field as the wally pontiff classic ?
Posted on 5/25/09 at 1:47 pm to TigahRag
Noone in the country has taken over the mantle that we left after the '90s. That doesn't speak to the "downfall" of the SEC as much as it does to the dominant play of LSU during this period.
Posted on 5/25/09 at 1:49 pm to hojo
actually, a lot of that has to do with the inception of both the super regionals and the best two out of three championship series as well .. we only came out of a super to win one of our five titles ... i don't think you will ever see any one school own college baseball like we did in the 90s under this format .. it is just too grueling with much more parity ..
