In that corner shopping center...
On Siegen Lane, is it any good?

Also, I think I saw another one out here in Denham Springs, right behind the Mr. Gatti's pizza place.

I've eaten there a few times before...it's ok. Not bad, but not all that great, but it's probably better than anything else in BR as far as Mexican goes.

I used to buy fajita meat at the butcher shop there too.

Sure, if for nothing else it's something out of the ordinary.

Best taqueria in town, in my opinion.

I was in that strip mall Saturday, which the Pineda family has officially taken over

Now the strip mall consists of a Latin-American I.D. center, Latin insurance, Bilingual hair salon, Latin Grocery, Taqueria, gift shop, and now their new Mexican Bakery. The only shop they don't run is the gun store

The bakery items at the new "Pineda's Bakery" were average, the smoking hot Jalisco chick working there was anything but.

The taqueria itself is called "El Sol de Guerrero" and shares a door with La Tiendita. I'm a big fan of their tacos de barbacoa, and also the tortas (Mexican sandwiches). I haven't had the burritos there, but that's what the main owner eats. The same family owns Los Gallos down the street, really good people. They sell the authentic Mexican cokes in the bottle, made with cane sugar, for soda enthusiasts.

this is one reason why i love this place.

i get the beef fajita. you cant get a plate like that in br for 12 bucks. also, their candy reminds me of my childhood.

my only complaint is that barbacoa on the menu is not real barbacoa...

just a warning to the gringos, lengua = tongue in english. ive had a few friends order it and be grossed out

i been to the bakery twice after eating there. (unfortunately i didnt get anything to eat since i am watching my blood sugar a little closer now), im not sure which lady you are talking about but all the ones that i saw working at the bakery were smoking hot. one of my best friends that is getting married has family from guatemala so she has no problem conversing in spanish for us.

the stiffmeister has gotta find a way for the hookup

I really like the tortas, although I think the ones at Tacos and Burritos Express are better. I also get the tamales from the fridge in the back. They are homemade and really good if you don't mind the thick masa. I've also gotten some good chorizo and mexican cheese from there. So far it's the best Authentic Mexican food I've found in BR.

Luz is the hottest one. In typical fashion, I made sure to get the full scoop from her before leaving.

If they did, it's news to me. If the sign says that they are open on Sundays, it's not the Pineda family. They're all born-again Christians.

I like the tortas at TBE, though I've only had them once or twice. I didn't care for the torta de milanesa (breaded steak sandwich).

The food at La Tiendita and TBE both are consistently good because they have the same main cook. As odd as it sounds, one of the two brothers that owns TBE is a cook at La Tiendita, and he splits his time between cooking at each restaurant. The Pinedas were cool with him opening his own place, and saw no reason to let him go.

Meh

The food is just OK, and should be less pricey for a hole-in-the-wall family place.

By now I've tried just about every Mexican place in Baton Rouge. None of them are memorable.

Don't mean to hijack a thread, but does anybody know what this place is? Is it strictly a place to gain fake ID's for illegals, or does is serve a legitimate purpose?

Sucks to have your palate.

Do you really think a business couple openly operate in an illegal fashion like that? Most of those places sell IDs that are sufficient for allowing some guy to buy a pack of smokes or buy beer. I've been to clubs that wouldn't let someone in if they had a foreign I.D. or a passport.

But an ID purchased from some storefront fly-by-night outfit is perfectly acceptable to them, instead?

I must be missing a logical connection here.

The English-language IDs are obviously working if the shop is still in business.

Just seems like another way to get some money out of these folks and rather pointless.

You think it makes sense, just because I don't?
