What to make of quote

Quarterback Jordan Jefferson persuaded the coaches to let him hand off to Scott instead of putting the ball in the air. They were sure glad he did.
"I would rather give it to Charles and let him pound it in there," said Jefferson, who was 18 of 27 for 212 yards. "Charles is a big power back. I didn't want to pass it. That situation required a running play. I saw the hole, and once he hit it, I knew it was a TD."
Do you want your qb not wanting the football in big game situations? Is he not a competitor?

Not a competitor? gtfo
He realized that Scott is a more experienced player than him, this is awesome, it shows JJ's maturity level that he is able to know his role in the offense.

I don't know, but he led LSU from their on 12, by all passing and a big scramble. JJ did they even with receivers dropping the ball.

I would think you want a qb that at least wants the football in that situation.
I dont know if there is another qb in the country that would not want the football in that situation.

he is obviously just trying to give props to his teamate, a lesson for all.

i dunno...its a little weird for sure but scott did score a touchdown so its hard to criticize too much

Maybe he was just going with what was working and wasn't being selfish. Don't read too much into it.....we don't even know if it's a true accounting of how it went down.

Shows me that he thinks team first. Being a team guy and being a competitor are not mutually exclusive.

i'm more worried that the coaches would listen to him. Running Scott up the middle was stupid. We were relying on a 45+ field goal to win the game by an unproven kicker.
The coaches should have smacked JJ in the head and told him to go win the game for us.
I'm glad we won, but those two play calls were retarded.

I think its a questionable statement. But I will admit that I really dont feel JJ is our best option at qb. So I might have an agenda. lol

Good point, but all of the JJ is not the answer crowd will continue to look for a sign of weakness without at least acknowledging that the kid was clutch in this situation and he made a suggestion to the coach that paid off! Now, he's not a competitor! We have some of the brightest fan in the country don't we? Man, I hope these guys are not coaching football of any kind because they are just plain idiots.

I agree with this^^^^^^^^

Seems to me he knew they were playing pass all the way... worked... maybe its a fluke or maybe he doesn't like pressure... kinda got shaky toward the last drive. I think it is more the first than the second. Look atall the presure in last years Bowl Game... hell of a game he played

JJ is beyond his years of MATURITY for a statement like this!! He is just doing what is best for the team and that is it!!!
If you don't think he is a competitor then you have serious problems recognizing what a true football player is!!

He proved himself twice that game
I wouldn't have had a problem letting the game rest on his leg. Scott's touchdown was just icing.

Maybe he saw something in the defense. I think LSU was planning on running it and kicking a field goal anyway

If he wasn't a competitor, why didn't he just ask to come out of the game?
Seems to me he showed his grit by being a huge part of the TD drive right before that.
