If it does, where do I take my family on vacation the week before July 4th, June 26 to July 3? Money for room is due May 25 so I need to decide soon.

Any ideas? You think Orange Beach will get oil?

I was there 2 weeks ago when they were paranoid about oil reaching the shore. I'm going again on Friday for 3 nights & don't really expect any oil to impact anything.

I'd keep your trip if I was you. Most realty companies down there have revised their cancellation policy because of oil potential. Some will even let you cancel the day before arrival.

Check the link below for updates.

If you go to Orange Beach, and there is oil-then your screwed. Plan for the worst-I always say! Go to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

When you have kids it matters to them and when they can't go on the beach it poses a problem

How would your kids get to orange beach without oil?

My family has a beach house rented from this comin Saturday thru the next Saturday. We get updates from the realty company weekly. They're saying you can cancel without any cancelation fees even after you've gotten there. If you're vacation is in July, then there's really no need to worry about it in May.

Make your reservations. Companies and hotels will not stick it to anybody if oil shows up. They will be getting reimbursed from the loss of tourism from BP.

I share your concerns. We have a trip planned to Gulf State Park July 22-25 and are keeping our fingers crossed. We will have four RVs out there so hopefully this works out.

If it does, pack you family up and take them to the Grand Canyon and lake Havasu, Arizona.

If you still want to be in that area, just book through Brett/Robinson at one of their Pheonix properties. They have been very good about deposits and cancellations policy, etc.

They also have two properties on the bay called Phoenix on the Bay that has pools, waters slide, and lazy river.
Not the best condo place by any means, but clean and comfortable.

Right now there has been no oil on the beach in Pensacola Beach - but even worse is the smell in the air today.

This is the first time there has been a good breeze from the south and the oil smell is nauseating...if I were on the beach with this I would have to go in a bar and start drinking.

Kids could care less about a little tar. When I was growing up, my uncle had a camp on Holly Beach, Johnson Bayou to be exact. The beach was covered in tar balls every time we went. My feet were black within 10 minutes, but I never bitched about it, as a kid I enjoyed being on the Gulf, tar and all. These days, everybody is in a panic about the possibility that a tar ball may show up at Guf Shores! Wussies!

this was due to one of the controlled burns of a particularly dense patch of surface oil. winds have shifted today, and no "oil smell" has been reported.
