Gonna watch it tonight even though these guys are a disaster and couldn't scratch their arse with a handful of fish hooks.
This show is almost like watching those old National Geographic programs showing starving people in Ethiopia. It's pitiful and tragic and you are pleading for the camera man to please hand them a frickin sandwich.

I love it. I watch every Friday. The ineptitude that these people have is amazing. It's a train wreck and I can't look away.
Based on the upcoming show titles, it seems like they are going to have a lot more success this season than the previous one.

Exactly, except some of the guys on Gold Rush are likable. Those douche nozzles on Whale Wars could all get eaten by orcas tomorrow and I wouldn't give 2 shits.

I gotta believe that some of their miscues are scripted. Would you really clear land for a month and not try out the wash plant until you have dirt to run through it? I don't believe that.
Also, based on their projections, it doesn't seem like the crew is taking too much home even if they do hit it "big".
They throw around $250k in gold like that would be awesome. It costs them $1k per day to run. There are 7 miners out there. The father and son have sunk their life savings into this operation. The math doesn't work here.

Someone interviewed the guy that got ran off last season and he said that it isn't scripted, per say, just that a lot of the scenes are edited to increase dramatic effect and that some situations are put in front of the guys just to get a reaction. It isn't scripted in the literal sense, but it isn't 100% authentic either.

The $250K is the breakeven point for the season, which factors in the $1K per day running cost, initial expenses, moving cost, ect. After that, I assume they split everything.
What they don't mention is the money all of them get from the History Channel. They each got approximately $1,000 per episode last season. I'd expect them to get more this season, based on the fact that the ratings have been pretty good and reality shows such as these tend to give everyone more each season.

I root for the young kid.. He seems like he has a great head on his shoulders for a 16 year old..
I kinda hate the main group now.. they can't do anything right.
ALso the old plot theif sucks.. I mean really, you're going to waste $600 bucks and 3-4 days flying down and just walking through your empty house when you need to be mining?

I noticed that too. You can see the sole on his left shoe is about 1.5-2 inches thicker than the other one. Maybe that's why he's such a hardass.

yea what the hell is up with that old assholes legs? was he born with one shorter or did he have a couple inchs removed at some point
Posted on 12/9/11 at 6:15 pm to mrfixit
I pretty sure he was just born with one leg longer than the other.
How would one go about having a couple of inches removed at some point?

A guy on another forum who actually runs a profitable gold mining company In the Klondike(so he says) crunched the numbers and determined that the maximum amount the Hoffman crew could expect to profit was 10k per crew member. That was running at full capacity (which we know they can't do) and not leaving anything in reserve for next year (which we know they will do.)
The funny thing about this show is Dorsey, that the guy they portrayed as a complete dumbass last season, is the only one who is now a real miner. He went back to school to get certified in explosives and mining techniques, and now, he works in the Southwest for a mining company.

God all these people are idiots. No one has used a D-Rocker on a consistent basis for a decade or more. That machine is 20+ years old. Don't be surprised when it breaks.

Nah, Greg Rimsburgh took a pipe to his arse when he made them leave Porcupine Creek. Love these guys. Watch it every Friday. They make me feel more comfortable about my business, there is always somebody worse off than you.
