Does LSU still sign Alford?

Yes I know he is most likely going MLB. But, do we take him as an athlete knowing we have our QB and if for some reason (possible injury during baseball season, etc.) his stock drops a little and he decides to attend college to improve it with a few years of SEC ball. I have read that he is open to being recruited as an athlete, so that wouldn't be a problem. It seems like a chance with no risk now, as if he does not join the team as expected, we just simply would not have to "process" one more player.

Why would we?
Liggins however...

He's probably going to sign with Southern Miss, there are a lot of things working in their favor right now.

Seriously. Wow, just wow. The kid is one of the best athletes in this class. He can play 4 different positions in college. Come on man. Do some research before you just spout stupidity.

running out of room for Alford. I doubt he'd come here anyway now.

I don't think LSU would take him. The spots are accounted for and it's been clear all along that LSU was not yet willing to risk a spot due to the MLB issue.

This is logical. But from a prospect standpoint if he did sign he would be top 5 in this class.

If Alford were to come to LSU I don't think he'd sign on signing day unless another kid or two doesn't sign. Our spots are essentially taken and with his probable MLB aspirations it is possible he would wait until the draft to decide whether he was going to sign or not. If he signs on signing day he counts whether he enters or not with the new rules. Too much risk to take with only 25 spots available and us wanting to bring in the full 25.

With work, I am not following this year as closely as past years, but I was under the impression this wasn't taking effect until next year's signing class since the rule was basically made during this present class's recruiting cycle. I have seen other fan bases, mostly gumps, talking about signing over 25 kids and back counting EEs which would be the old rule and not the new one in which you cannot go past 25 LOI not matter what on NSD. So maybe I am getting mixed info with my occasional check ups. If we can still back count this year, we only signed 22 last year and will have some EEs which would possibly allow for us to sign 26 or 27 and wait to see what Alford's decision is before asking someone like a Granier to possibly greyshirt. Of course I had heard USM is now in the mix, but I always heard Alford was a LSU fan and wanted to play at LSU so still figured we were in front for right now.

I didn't want him with are without HC. As a rule I would NEVER sign a QB that might go pro in baseball. Other positions can better weather the hit the program takes with one player leaving early. We lucked out picking up Mett the way we did but you can't bank on that sort of thing happening.

Which position do you think he plays the best?

I would love to see AA come to LSU as an athlete. Smart kid and he would be a great representative of LSU but I believe LSU will back off of him since getting kiel. That will probably push alford to USM. I really hate it because I have watched him do amazing things at petal since transferring there a few years ago, and was really looking forward to him being a 2 sport athlete in purple and gold

Talk radio and local newspaper say Alford is newly recruited by the new Southern Miss coach Ellis Johnson, who used to coach with Alfords high school coach in the past and offered him a So.Miss. coaching job, too. Alford was told he could play baseball too and start as shortstop as a freshman. QB and SS at So.Miss. is hard to pass up even if he is an LSU fan.

I think he projects best as a Safety. He could be a very good college QB but I think he would be great on D. He is just a ridiculous athlete. Just my opinion though.

Until they get to training camp, it is all opinions and conjectures.

This kid is a sick athlete. I don't think anyone here truly understands what he can do on the football field and on the baseball diamond.

No one questions that for a second. But if you have to choose between a top DE, RB, Lber, DB and Alford in this class, Who gets left out?
We will have 4 qb's on scholarship, you could always take him and turn him into a reciever or DB, but wouldn't you take a true top db or wr?
How many grays can you hand out?

You take this guy. He has played defense also for Petal. He led Petal to the championship game, beating Meridian, and had the SC taken away on a BS call. Meridian had not lost a home game since 06 and Alford led them to a victory at Meridian, playing defense and offense. Meridian wins by 30 if AA is not playing.

I do, check my posts. You ask previously committed players to take a greyshirt if this guy wants in.
