With all the talk from JJ criticizing playcalling, I thought this was interesting. This is just one guy that argues that LSU had the correct playcalls for the game, and JJ didn't execute. A little verbose in his presentation, but there is no doubt in the end that JJ missed a big play by going to his primary WR.

LINK
Personally, I would rather that the playcalling was OK, and the execution was bad since it augurs well with a new and improved QB for us this season.

The fault lies with the head coach in not switching players to execute the plays that were called. I can't argue with starting JJ, but can argue til the day I die that he should not have been the quarterback the entire game.

I haven't done any film evaluation, but my seats were in the corner of the lodge and I had a pretty good view of what was opening up.

It seemed to me that they were stacking 9 in the box all f'ing night and just reading JJ's eyes. JJ stared down the primary receiver, who typically had double coverage as a result. JJ would then get flustered and couldn't find the 2-3 guys who were wide f'ing open, or who had one-on-one and could have easily beat their man with any kind of decent throw.

On one of the first plays from scrimmage, RR wasn't even defended until after the snap. The Bama player was late and RR could have had an EASY T.D.

JJ didn't even f'ing see that no one was guarding him at the snap.

There's no guarantee Peterson actually catches the ball, he didn't have the best hands and that Bama S would've closed a lot quicker than you think because he was reading Jefferson's eyes all the way and knew Peterson was not an option on that play

Maybe. But what it does show is that the 3-4 can be attacked with a good QB.

If you're arguing that the analyst is missing the bigger picture, then I would probably tend to agree with you.

I'm going to bookmark this thread to look at later though, because from first glance, the way he put it together looked somewhat interesting.

I'm willing to bet that I will think his overall analysis is crap though.

Not sure I agree totally with this guys analysis of this play. The safety makes his break on the ball when Jefferson is in the middle of his long wind up, before that he is in pretty good position to make a play on DP.

I don't think Jefferson has enough ability to manipulate the safety that much to allow DP to get behind him. The play before this one was much more frustrating to watch.

The safety does not commit until JJ actually throws the ball.. he was the same distance from OBJ & DP .. until the ball was thrown.. he would have tackled either one of them.... i guess the author thinks the safety would have been easily looked off, but I doubt that.. maybe a pump fake & then hit DP.. but if he does not bite, then no one is open.

I really wish that everyone who keeps posting JJ threads on this board would get the aids.
I'm sick of this crap.

Disagree. Looking at the pics the safety was commited to OBJ before the throw. I do not know if DP scores a TD or even catches the ball but I believe the overall analysis that Plays meant to open up the game were called and not executed. JJ has showed difficulty all his career in reading defenses, manipulating the safeties, and picking up his second or third options. Why would this analysis suprise anybody?

The other side of the coin is that if JL comes into the game Bama switches to the avalanche pass rush and it becomes a question of whether he is effective against it. We will never know the answer to that one.

The fault lies in the fact a scholarship was ever offered to that bum.

Definitely committed before the throw. But, it's hard to tell if he committed before the wind up.

Clearly, I believe any sort of pump fake to ODB and DP scores EASILY. It wouldn't have even needed to be a full pump -- just a shoulder shrug would have done it as the safety was clearly leaning as he was watching JJ stare down ODB.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- With Drew Brees at QB, LSU would have hung 60 on Bama. I think Lee would have definitely have been the better option here.

I agree with this. I saw this play during the game and couldn't believe we missed DP so badly. But, upon further reveiw, I agree that RL would have gotten to DP. When JJ sets to throw, RL is equidistant from both DP and OB. A pump fake instead of a stare down to either would have been nice.

one key point he missed (I think, I read this several weeks ago) was that Bama's defense wouldn't have been in the same scheme had Lee been in because he was no threat to run on called passing plays.

Herein lies another long time critcism of JJ. His long windup and delivery. I will absolutely be flabergasted if anyone invites him to an NFL preseason camp much less gets drafted...

I agree. If JL was in Bama no doubt would have put on a heavy rush and blind side blitzes.
