The Place Beyond Pines is the most recent example of this.

Spoilerish to some

As I was sort of expecting a The Departed/Amercian Gangster esque movie revolved around two characters. And it being told in a back and forth fashion. Still a very good movie. Just that its very good trailer made it seem like it was strictly about bank robbing/catching the bank robber (at least to me)

What are some other movies...that turned out to be good...but the trailer had you thinking it would be something else?

Tough question, can't be too many instances of this. Just to have an answer, I'm gonna go with Kick-arse. I thought the trailer looked like a funny twist on comics, but the movie, while funny, had a lot more heart and dark shite going on. Movie was even better than I thought'd be.

Didn't a lady try to sue the company that made Drive because she said the trailer was misleading?

Now that I think about it..

That is another movie that I thought would be different

At least more stuff similar to its opening scene. But we got much more.

As a kid i remember being physically upset because Snow Dogs had like one scene with talking dogs in it. It was a terrible movie so it doesnt really count for here but still

Still havent forgiven Cuba for that shite.

I dunno, Smoking Aces trailer had me expecting a Guy Ritchie type film, and that's pretty much what we got from it.

I'd say Cabin in the Woods would be a good example of this (though I know some folks hated it period).

50/50

I don't really remember the trailers or anything specific about how they marketed it, but I swear they marketed it as a comedy.

Edit: here's the trailer

The trailer for the Catfish movie really made it look like it was goin to be a horror movie. Also I never saw it but I heard pain and gain is actually kinda dark

She said the trailers misled her to believe it was going to be a movie similar to Fast & the Furious, and it was antisemitic.

The case was thrown out by the judge.
