Buying used 4 wheeler Pet Peeve

I'm looking for a used 4 wheeler and I'm searching these groups on FB. (La Sportsman is out of control with asking prices)
But my pet peeve is people take pictures of their bike to sell and it's covered in mud.
If I'm gonna sell something in gonna clean it spotless. They could probably ask for more if the bike didn't look like it had just come back from Tower Trax

i was going to buy used for this season, but I decided to wait until next summer and buy new. I refuse to buy a bike that has been modified with big tires, moved the radiator, snorkels, etc. with a comment that says "never been in water".

Or I'll just give my money to someone who takes care of their shite....

Just remember that it's a 4 wheeler. It's main purpose is to take someone to and from their blind/stand. That usually involves a lot of mud. Most people understand this.

Trust me I know... Looking for something to help me out in Duck Hunting.. Plenty of mud... But when you go to sell something don't be a lazy arse and clean it. You can actually make more money. When something is clean people tend to think that the person took care of the bike

Rule #1 when buying a used ATV: Don't buy one with a snorkel.

You know what chaps my arse when looking at trucks on sites like that? When people don't put the mileage, what motor it's got, 2wd or 4wd, and other necessary items. Really grinds my gears.

I actually prefer that they show the pic of it all muddy. That way I don't get suckered in by someone who's bike was only clean the day they took a picture. If you think it's cool to show off all the mud on your ATV/UTV/Truck, then I don't want it.

If they have been using it for mud riding id rather it be covered in mud when advertising it.
what i fear is the drowned out bikes that have been ridden into the ground and somoen shine it up and puts new plastic / stickers on it and makes a couple grand off me
Had a friend do that with a Ranger recently. He absolutely abused it. Bought new stickers, pulled the bend up arse skid plates off and sold it as a bike he trail rode with

I've gotta disagree. If the snorkel was done properly, the odds of the ATV being drowned out are significantly less than one without it. I know several people who have accidentally drowned out their bikes by trying to cross a ditch and found out it was too deep.
Pay attention to the color of the radiator, front/rear diffs, and the engine. If they are permanently brown, then it was obviously a mud bike.

THE ONLY WAY TO BUY A USED BUY: Buy a stock bike from an old man.

A few tricks:
1) Look in between the wiring and frame for grass and mud. That stuff is hard to wash from there, and people don't normally do it.
2) Take seat off, open air box, and look for dirty water or mud in the bottom
3) Look for kinks, anomalies in the winch cable
Best thing to do is either get one from an old man, or get one with a bunch of miles

I tried to sell mine with the reading on craigslist. "Its been floated across several streams and mud bogs. But its never had water in the intake."
I didn't get many offers. Gonna trade it in for my sxs. I got it cheap from Texas because the belt had broke. Replaced it and it runs perfect. I will be honest that I have been rough on it. Its what I bought it for.
