We don't get in the news very often but when we do it's for a darn good reason.
Frankly I'm surprised that they actually referred to us as Saint Gabriel. Usually the news media almost seem to go out of their way to say Sunshine or Carville when they are reporting on something in the City of St Gabriel. I've actually contacted our "parish newspaper" in Plaquemine years ago over them not running news stories I submitted on behalf of a non-profit here. They didn't even know we were in Iberville Parish. I think they thought that Saint Gabriel was in Ascension Parish or something. These days the newspaper will refer to anything over here as The Eastside or The Eastbank. Adding to the confusion is that we have 3 Post Offices inside the city limits and only one says Saint Gabriel. The one on the south end of town where the shooting happened still says Carville and the one on the one here on the north end of town a block down the road says Sunshine. The post masters refuse to change the addresses to reflect that they are inside St Gabriel limits so some people refuse to accept that they are part of the City.
East Iberville. It's cray cray around here.
