I heard an interesting point on the radio this morning about the Finals version of the Cavs -- "Switch LeBron for Carmelo Anthony and this team is the Knicks." Also, I saw this on Reddit not too long ago regarding Carmelo's HOF credentials:

Score 10000 career points - Yes
Record 2500 career assists - Yes
Record 1000 career steals - No
Get selected to 5 All-Star Teams - Yes
Make First Team All-NBA 3 times - No
Win the MVP award - No
Win an NBA Title Yes - No
Make the Playoffs 4 times - Yes
Make the Conference Finals 2 times - No
Win Scoring Title - Yes
Lead league in Assists at end of season - No
Finish season in Top 10 for Scoring, Assists, and Steals - No
Get 50 A+ Teammate Grades - N/A
Break a Single Season Record - No
Record 250 career double-doubles - No
Record 25 career triple-doubles - No

Carmelo has good stats, but he's never made first team All-NBA, never had much postseason success (he got out of the first round once in Denver), and he'll probably never win a ring. Interested in the MSB's thoughts.

once again, its the basketball hall of fame and not the nba hall of fame. You have to take in account his international success along with being a great college player, even if for only a year.

Easily. He also has a NCAA title and 2 Olympic gold medals.

This.

His one year in college was incredible as he led his team to a title as a true freshman, and he has been one of the best US players in international competition which has earned him 2 gold medals.

ETA:

Wasn't he also an NBA scoring champ?

Wrong.

Basketball hall of fame, not NBA hall of fame.

In your world, I guess Coach K ain't making it.

This would probably be different if him and LeBron didn't play the same position.

ETA: Looks like its just 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center.. So Melo and LeBron could both be on it. Nevermind.

For the unaware, this hall of fame criteria is from the MyPlayer campaign from the NBA 2k15 video game....I think the joke is about his teammate grades.

I don't think so. he's going to have to have some kind of successful teams moving forward to get in.

He's in. He would not make a hypothetical NBA hall of fame imo.

Yeah, but look at the names that made first team over him. The players who made first-team All-NBA were Durant five times, Duncan three times, Garnett two times, Dirk four times, and Lebron eight times. That's a stacked group of names. All of those players are among the top 25 players in the history of the game. You can't really fault Melo for not making 1st team All-NBA with all those great players blocking his way.

it really doesn't, but people will say it does because its the basketball HOF.

winning an NCAA title isn't going to sway voters, esp when he was a 1 and done. Pretty irrelevnant
