I was a book reader and loved the first couple of books and seasons of GOT, but the last few books and seasons have become so hard to follow with all of these random characters that I can't keep straight and the storylines I enjoyed like the Starks and Lannisters just seem to develop so slowly that I eventually just lost interest.
I don't really care what happens to Arya, Dany, Sanaa etc anymore.
I will be curious to see how this all ends eventually, but Winter has been coming for 6 seasons now. I'm fricking over it.

I agree with that, if this season falls apart like last season I won't look forward to it like I do now. As it is I am counting down to the next episode.

There are at least 150 characters on the TV show. The books have many many more. Hell the books have appendices listing all characters so people can keep them straight. Guess I just don't want to make the commitment to a series I've lost all interest in.

I know I'm in the minority though.

I Kinda feel your pain, but not to that degree. It's more like, after the season break I've kinda lost touch with the plight of some of the characters (eg, Dany, Arya) but overall it's still a great watch and I'm sure the connections will be reestablished after another episode or so.

May help to binge rewatch the last season or two.

I love the meandering chaos. It's something different from the typical linear neatly wrapped storyline. It's slow and expansive and complex, just as would be expected from multiple players vying for advantage and power.

Not giving up, overall. But the show is making it more and more difficult to support it with other readers.

Dorne has turned into a nonsensical mess. They should have never gone there, other than bring Oberyn up for the fight, if they were going to do that. They've screwed up so many threads on the show - I can still enjoy it, but it is increasingly difficult to take seriously. At this point for someone new to the material, I would recommend reading OR watching, but not both. This is a serious change from just a couple of weeks ago. That's how bad the premiere this season was.

Wow you are so cool for going against the popular opinion on this show, glad you also cleared up the air on how you are smarter by having read all the books and thanks for starting a thread to tell all of us how you feel.

The only thing I've given up on is the expectation of GRRM actually finishing the series himself in writing. The show has its cons but the overrall content is still very good.
