One of the things I love about soccer is that what happens on gameday 4 matters just as much as what happens on gameday 36.
The best team wins the title every single time. You get a home and home with everyone else in the league. GD breaks ties to encourage agressive play. It's purity is what makes it great.

I honestly enjoy both formats. I love the purity, as you say, of the round robin format. I also really like the do or die heightened setting of the knockout rounds and playoffs. I think both formats have their pros and cons.

The playoff format is what it is, most people would rather see a table playing each team home and away. But the playoffs could be done on top of that. I've never said the playoffs suck, it's just dumb that so many teams make it now.

Capital One Cup anyone? Of just the "play-off" qualifying teams?
That way the Supporters Shield can be held to a higher standard. And yet the play-offs (and finishing higher in the league to make the cup competition) matter too.
