Just wanted to highlight some comments from the players about the way Panama handled Christian Pulisic the other night. LINK
quote:

“I think Panama thought there was a bull’s-eye on his back and they went after him from Minute 1 all the way through,” United States Coach Bruce Arena said. “He has to learn that if the referee’s not going to protect him, he’s got to deal with it, and he did well. He created our goal.”

quote:

“Christian will probably learn the most from this game because he’s incredibly talented,” goalkeeper Tim Howard said. “When you play against top, top defenders in Europe, they recognize the talent and they defend properly. In Concacaf, they don’t defend properly. They just come steaming through. They do. They steam through and the next one steams through. It’s crazy, but it’s effective on certain nights when the referee’s not on your side.”

I have to say, I love seeing our coach and our veterans call out CONCACAF on its bullshite.
quote:

There was anger that Tuesday’s referee, César Ramos of Mexico, did not do more to protect Pulisic in a bruising game with 24 fouls called and zero yellow cards shown.

shite field. shite refs. shite fans. shite countries. Playing away in CONCACAF in a nutshell.

All that said, I think now is a good time to highlight something important about Pulisic: his mentality. The kid is smart, mature, and incredibly poised for an 18 year old in his first full season as a pro.
quote:

Pulisic, for now, can expect to see many more similar tests, which may be why the United States delegation made a point to highlight the treatment he received on Tuesday, lest other teams seize on the tactic. He shrugged it off, aware that the smallest, most gifted player on the field is likely to be on the business end of pointed tackling, especially if it is not penalized.

“Everyone watches film and everyone takes notes on players,” he said. “They’re going to do whatever they can, for not just me but all the players, whatever they can do to frustrate them. It’s part of the game. It’s not like I am surprised by it.”

Simply put, seeing how composed Pulisic is, and ready to meet head on the absurd expectations we already have for him, gives me cause to believe that he will continue to grow and improve as a player. This mentality, the attitude he takes towards the game and how it is to be played, is awesome to behold in a player as talented as he is. He comes across as incredibly humble and in interviews often mentions his need for improvement. Behind that humility is a quiet confidence in his own abilities. These too are traits that will serve him well in the coming years.
quote:

Even Donovan has been quick to shout, repeatedly, that Pulisic has already far outpaced him. Just yesterday, he told Yahoo Sports that “Christian is miles ahead of where I was at that age.”

“I think we have similar qualities when I watch him,” added Donovan, the all-time leading scorer of the United States men’s national team. “But the difference for me is that mentally he’s been exposed to things that I hadn’t been exposed to yet at that age and it has clearly helped him. So I think the future for him is incredibly bright.”

quote:

Pulisic—already media savvy, too—ever so gently nudged the conversation away from the Donovan talk yesterday.

“[Donovan] was an idol of mine. It’s obviously an honor, but I’m my own player as well, so I’m just trying to do it for me.”

It's exciting to be a US fan right now. The coaching change and the integration/emergence of players like Pulisic, Nagbe, and Villafana has reinvigorated the fan base.

Oh yeah, no big deal, but the official Bundesliga website named him to their "Future World XI..." at the 10 position. Shout out to Rickdaddy.

Be still, my heart.

Mickey Mouse bullshite. USSF needs to ask for an explanation. It was clear from the first minute what their tactic was and the Mexican refs just let it slide all night, ridiculous.

Didn't you call Pulisic overrated in the other thread? Dembele is also an incredibly talented prospect. There is a reason he's getting France caps at 19. There's something wrong with your judgment, man.

Dembele is legit as hell. He's better than Pulisic is at the moment, but they excel and both have different styles. Watching them continue to grow is going to be fun
