I honestly don't know what the problem was

Save the talent excuse, because even if this was a down year for us generation-wise, we're still more talented than Honduras and Panama.
Can't fully blame Jurgen because the Hex was only him for two games, did the players really just not give a frick this cycle. Bruce gets blame, but I'm not exactly sure what for other than lack of results. My question is why the lack of results.
I don't know, but it hurts.

I think there were some major squad issues within the team that we won't hear about until someone writes a book on it or something. The players looked lethargic and they didn't look like they cared all that much.

This cycle was doomed the minute the 2014 WC ended. When the USSF started pushing behind the scenes for US players to come home to the MLS.

I agree it hurts. 2019 will be here before you know it and you just get right back on the horse.

all other factors held constant, the lack of want/emotion/determination in all of our road matches outside of Mexico was pathetic. like we were too good to be there. who does that fall on? it’s a collective I suppose. but to go a whole cycle and only pick up 3 points on the road once(I think, St Vincent?) is utterly ridiculous

That was happening before the 2014 World Cup.
Bradley and Dempsey had already come back.

So they were pushing for it slightly before the 2014 WC final.
It's always been a systemic issue man.

So then what's your point? That's in the best interest of the MLS, not US Soccer.
It's two different entities in that sense.

I understand wanting defenders who have some chemistry playing together. But Omar Gonzalez is not good enough. I'd take Cameron over him even if he's never played one minute with his CB partner.
I hated that stupid chemistry argument people were making for Gonzalez, Besler and Cameron were our first choice pairing in Brazil.

They sure don't act that way, do they?

Playing Omar over Cameron is a decision no one should let Arena forget as long he's attempting to pursue any sort of career in American soccer.
I fricking despise his fat uncreative, uninspiring face.

Actually they do, in a huge way, at the youth level, which came at the expense of this current generation of players.
What's in the best interest for MLS isn't for US Soccer and Garber knows this.

Arena was worse, this stint with US soccer, than Jurgen.
Didn't think that was possible but it was and is etched in history.
Cant explain away not being able to draw Trinidad and fricking Tobago.

Weston Mckinnie, Josh Sargent, Matt Miazga, CCV, and Ethan Horvath should play in every possible USMNT game for the next five years.

@JeffKassouf:
Some interesting insight from Don Garber's talk today: The player he would want in MLS more than any other - even over Messi - is Pulisic.
And therein lies my point... a teenage american scoring a frickton of goals would be huge for MLS, but it would hamper the growth of a US Soccer prodigy.

That's not how this works... They need to go out and prove first that they can hold their own at a top-tier level.
You can't use the national team as a training ground, we tried that in the 80's, and Russia tried that in the 2000's... it doesn't work like that. You need your talent to cultivate at the club level and then pick the best of the best from there.
