What’s y’all opinion on what’s better?
Will be used as family travel vehicle as well as going to camp.

Do you need 4wd to get to camp?

Do you need AWD? If not, it's just one more thing to break. If you use it, get it.

Have owned both.Just go with the AWD. There is really no difference in gas mileage and the resale will be all the much higher. Be careful about tearing it up off road though if it is also your daily driver. Its expensive to fix if you damage it.

We don’t know how or where you drive a-hole

I believe AWD is only available in the Limited Edition. I think it depends on what is in your price range.
If you want bells and whistles get Limited with AWD.
If you are looking to stay in SR5 you can get it with 4wd if you really want/need it.

This is always a funny line in these threads. I would certainly hope a roughly $3k option would have higher resale.

FTR - I own a 2017 4Runner Limited AWD now.
I would not want another one, it has quirks I do not like or work wierd (bluetooth, low tire pressure, maintenance interval, etc.).
The gas tank is also too small for the MPG, you feel like you are filling up constantly.
Had a 1999 4Runner SR5, it was nice.

We have a 2wd SR5 and I agree with the size of the tank. Only two things I wish ours had is 4x4, and a V8. Don’t need either, but would be nice to have. Eta And I don’t think they offer V8s in them anymore either.

A Toyota 4Runner should be bought with 4WD for resale value alone.
If you don't "need" 4WD, there are never SUVs out there for the money.
That said, the 4Runner is rated as the most reliable vehicle made, so there's that.

My Tacoma was the same way. I think the range was ~250 miles. Took it out west and I think I stopped at ever gas station on the way and back. If I had gone 150 mikes since the last stop, who knew when the next one was? I should have made a gas station coffee table book.

Not even a question. Always go with the AWD

Is camp just on a gravel road, or do you have to work to get there? 2 wheel is going to be cheaper and easier to deal with typically.

4wd, you can't in good conscience put truck nuts on a 2wd.

Go with the 4WD for sure! I have a 2008 4Runner SR5 2WD and I made a dumb decision when I bought it. I have a lift and mud tires on it and it isn't too bad trail riding but if I had to do it all over again I would for sure go with the AWD/4WD.

4 runners are wayyyy overrated on this website. No v8 is the biggest offending quality. Plus the interior is very drab for the amount of $$ it takes to get a loaded one.
My $50k will go to a GJC. Looks great outside AND inside, and has some serious balls for the paved road should you select the proper engine configurations.

FALSE....Nothing breaks on a 4Runner

....it depends on how long you intend to keep it.
4wd vehicles never fall through a bottom price point. I bought a 4wd 4runner with 160k for 5400. At 210k, it's worth a little more than that. The 2wd have further depreciated.

I wanted 4wd but in south LA it’s not really needed. And no “need” for quotes, I’m not off-roading this thing in a swamp and I don’t live near Moab.
