That’s a group with some excitement and hopeful future.

This group makes me want to watch. Love all the new faces, and the chances for some younger vets to get leadership opportunities. Wish they had two games so we can see everyone get some time.

I wonder if our current call-ups are a group-think by the interim staff, or if the current manager himself is making these call-ups.
I think he did a good thing in the January camp giving a few players a farewell appearance and mixing in playing time for fresh faces, while keeping a somewhat consistent core on the field.
It’s going to be a ton of fun to see these fresh faces and find out exactly how well they take advantage of the opportunities they are being given in this squad.

Hope Novakovich sees the field. He’s been tearing up the Dutch second division.

I think the average age is 22.7 years old.

Other than Lletget not being named, I really like this roster. Some of these guys I keep reading about but we never really get to watch, so I'm looking forward to the game impossibly.

George Weah and Joe Nagbe were teammates on the Liberian national team. Their sons, Tim and Darlington, are now teammates on the US national team.

I love that we're calling in young players, but I don't like the low bar that we're setting when it comes to what warrants a call up with some of these selections (Weah, EPB, etc.)
Posted on 3/18/18 at 7:07 pm to pvilleguru
I selfishly wish we weren't calling up Nagbe as I don't want him to miss time and cost the United a game. It would be much different if we were gearing up for the World Cup.

You need a few vets around and the game is only in North Carolina.

True but last year international play caused Martinez to miss way too many games due to injury. If nagbe or miggy get hurt on the call up it's going to really frick things up

Bummed that Bacon had to miss this with another apparent injury.

This is clearly not an "A-team" camp for us, other national teams experiment with call ups all the time... it just usually doesn't happen three months before a World Cup.
Calling up a team full of vets and established players would be pointless right now considering we have nothing to prepare for and we have an interim manager.

quote:Not what I'm talking about. From what I can tell, EPB has only played about 130 minutes for his club. Weah only has about 30 minutes as a professional. Rubin has barely played anything that isn't CCL. Hamid hasn't played any games for the 1st team this season. Etc.
This is clearly not an "A-team" camp for us,

I'm betting that they were told by the new Pres, "don't bring anybody that will piss off the fanbase"

I actually read a post on Facebook that had an interview with the interim manager. Asked him some pretty specific questions.
Why Weah? Speed and technical ability.
Seems like a focus on centerbacks... why? Lots of youth and folks getting time with their clubs.
Why Kenny? He was injured for a while, but showed good stuff while with the team last year (against Portugal?).
Why no Pulisic? Wanted to bring him in, but because Dortmund has a big match on the back end of the break, paired with them trying to secure a European spot, it seemed like the better choice to allow Pulisic to focus on club ball.
Why the no-name striker? He’s on loan from his primary club, but has scored 18 goals in his league to this point. He is youthful, and 6’4” y’all. That makes him a different player than any striker in our pool. He is an intriguing prospect, so it was decided to bring him in and see how he does with the MNT in camp.
Other info in it as well, but that was paraphrasing.
