Would appreciate SB knowledge re: World Cup contest w/ friends

So I’m doin a little World Cup contest with about 15-20 guys. I follow EPL closely and then keep up with other big clubs when it comes to UCL/Europa but after that my knowledge is pretty limited, which is why I would greatly appreciate any thoughts and opinions on what countries I should pick when it comes to the less prestigious teams
Quick run down....there will be 5 tiers of teams. Each contestant gets to pick 1 team in tiers 1-4 and 2 teams in tier 5
Scoring
Group stages: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw
**They we’re talking about potentially doing bonus points for teams that win their groups but I haven’t heard final ruling on that
Round of 16:
Tier 1 teams 5 point
Tier 2 teams 6 points
Tier 3 7 points, etc
Basically an advantage for having good picks for lesser teams
Quarterfinals:
Tier 1- 7 points
Tier 2- 8 points
Etc
Semifinals:
Tier 1- 9 points
Tier 2- 10 points
etc
Y’all get the point
Also, there’s a bonus for whoever picks Golden Boot winner
I will post the tiers of all the teams in next post. Like I said, would appreciate any thoughts on who y’all would take from each tier. Hope this wasn’t too long or confusing

Tier 1: Can't go wrong with any of them. Unlike most tournaments, there isn't a true group of death, either.
Tier 2: Belgium is really good. England is too, but they seem snake bitten as hell every time. Portugal would be my second pick.
Tier 3: Mexico, Switzerland, or Denmark. Denmark's group looks easy to me.
Tier 4: Egypt is the easy choice if Salah is healthy. Their group is really easy, but no one knows how exactly Salah will be. Serbia is a more conservative choice.
Tier 5: Japan, easily. Costa Rica if I had to pick a second team. Great goalkeeper and decent track record in the WC beforehand.

Was thinking Germany or France for my first group just cause of South American teams history when playing World Cup in Europe

Tier 4 is the one I can’t really decide on especially cause idk how healthy Salah is
Egypt with their easy group seems like best chance of getting points in the group stage but then there’s a few that have that makeup of a Cinderella run similar to Costa Rica in 2014

Also, what about picking Uruguay for tier 2? They prob aren’t gonna make a deep run but shouldn’t they win all 3 group stage games vs Russia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia?
Portugal is who I have been leaning towards but with them sharing a group with Spain, it makes me hesitant when thinking about getting me results
ETA: I guess nvm cause if Portugal finish 2nd in their group they would face Uruguay in round of 16 so I would just make up points there if Portugal won. And if Portugal finish 1st in their group then I’ll be happy since I picked them

Egypt has the best player. Peru has more talented players though, and a really navigable group. Egypt's group is also pretty easy but I think Uruguay is better and Russia is going to get all the funny business.

So I’m leaning towards...
Germany
Portugal
Poland
Egypt
Japan
Costa Rica
I’m expecting around 10-15 other people in the contest, but I know at least a few (probably more) don’t watch much soccer besides world cups. Are my picks too chalk? I keep thinking about going with Uruguay in tier 2 if I need to make a ballsy pick
Also, is there any reason at all to be concerned about Germany’s recent form in friendlies? They entered yesterday on a 5 match winless streak and didn’t look that dominant in the win vs Saudi Arabia. I know they’re just friendlies and going back to World Cup qualifiers and Confederations Cup they weren’t losing...just didn’t know if it was something to be concerned about

Don't think that tier 3+ advantage is big enough in the later rounds of the cup... Not many of those teams make deep runs

are you keeping score in a spreadsheet?
