Bentonville, AR is a nice town. It’s obvious there is money being spent to improve the lifestyle there. What I found ironic is that the quality of life there varies greatly from the rest of Arkansas. Also the demographics vary greatly from what one may expect to see at an ordinary Walmart. These folks are living large by selling basic necessities to ordinary folks.

I’m not mad at them, that’s business. It is extraordinary that they foster such a fine quality of life for those fortunate enough to get to work there. The other thing happening there is that the developers are demolishing older homes in fine shape to build large modern homes for these people.

The smell of money is in the air. This area is rated very highly for quality of life, I certainly now understand why.

Fayetteville is a nice city. NW Arkansas in general would be a nice place to live.

Yep, the development is so recent that the google maps are behind. We couldn’t find our house on street view because the entire street was renovated

No one wants to live in Bentonville, but Walmart ain't moving to Dallas.

So, if you want to work for them you are moving there and taking your nice lifestyle with you.

I live here.

Yes, the NWA area is getting a facelift and investment for the future so that families from other big cities want to stay and live here if hired at the big companies.

NWA population has exploded over the past 15 years (primarily due to Walmart growth). If Walmart ever goes out of business, it is going to be rough on the area. Hopefully that doesn’t happen.

I met a guy from there. His parents are filthy rich Walmart execs. But he still looked and sounded like what you’d expect from Arkansas

Crazy to me that they make billions and billions of dollars and pay their people $9/hr.

They are one of the companies that can afford paying their associates much more. The more they pay, the better stores they’d have, IMO. They could be more selective in whom they’re hiring.

It’s probably the only place I’d consider living in the state of Arkansas.

If it would improve the bottom line, I'm sure they would do it.

Yeah, Walmart employees don't want to have to compete with a talented workforce.

Walmart is a study in how low prices trump everything else for a huge swath of the consuming public. The stores are massive and hard to maneuver around, crowded, and employees aren't the cream of the labor crop.

Costco has done well with the other model.. A fair number of people shop there cause they're great to their employees and pay them a lot (relatively).

Walmart exemplifies what is wrong in America.

NW Arkansas is a very nice area, very scenic, lots to do, lots of good schools and good peeps up there. I’d put Fayetteville ahead of Bentonville any day though.
