Who didn't see this coming?
quote:

The State Police Commission on Thursday drastically reduced the punishment three troopers received last year for taking a lavish "side trip" to Las Vegas while driving to a law enforcement conference in California.

The commission, which acts as a civil service board for the Louisiana State Police, deemed the discipline too harsh and voted to restore the ranks of two of the troopers demoted in the scandal, Derrell Williams and Rodney Hyatt, while overturning a letter of reprimand issued to the third trooper, Thurman D. Miller. The commission also reversed the salary reductions Williams and Hyatt received from Col. Kevin Reeves, the State Police superintendent, but ordered both troopers to serve suspensions as a less severe form of punishment. Williams, who had been the head of the agency's internal affairs division at the time of the trip, received a 40-hour suspension, while Hyatt will be sidelined for 500 hours.

A fourth trooper on the trip, Alexandr Nezgodinsky, received a letter of counseling, a form of discipline that may not be appealed under State Police Commission rules.

We didnunuffin and, if we did, we didn't know better!
quote:

The troopers, in their appeal, noted that they reimbursed the state for expenses related to the trip, even as they insisted they had not knowingly violated State Police policy and said they had never been trained on state travel regulations. Williams, for his part, did not claim overtime and testified that he actually worked more hours during the conference than he claimed on timesheets.

Does this last tidbit belong in the accidental text thread?
quote:

The discipline Williams received stemmed from his use of a state cellphone for personal communications. Investigators found that, after checking into a Las Vegas hotel, Williams took a photograph of a bed and sent it to a friend. "Has your name all over it," he wrote. "Look at the bar at the top of the headboard. What do you think that is for?" The same friend sent Williams a photograph of her genitalia a couple of days later in an email with the subject "No panties Sunday." Two days after that exchange, Williams sent the woman an image of himself "seated in the desert with a cactus protruding between (his) legs," according to State Police records. Williams testified that he did not realize he had been using his State Police email account during those exchanges. He said he uses both personal and state email accounts on his cellphone.

This is precisely the reason some say tazing an 11 year old for stealing candy is too much. LE, and the way they are above the law or procedure, is a joke.

We hate cops again on the OT? Because I can’t keep up with the pendulum mood swings.

There’s a difference between cops who work the graveyard shift trying to solve murders, put away drug dealers, etc. and State Troopers who sit in their Tahoe all day writing speeding and inspection sticker tickets. frick the State Police.

What you trying to say? Because if it is that I spend too much time on the internet, you are right. I have to get away from this damn board.

Baw whose name was on my warrants as head of organized crime task force was caught 3 years prior with boner pills and hydrocodone. Not arrested, not fired, but a temporary demotion with massive promotion waiting. Possession of the hydrocodone is a 3rd degree felony in fl.

I still don't get the issue. People act like they're the perfect employee at their jobs. Act like they don't take 20 minute dumps while playing on facebook!

what aggravating factors contributed to one cop being suspended more than 10x the other one?

Dude lied his arse off on his time sheet and claimed a whole bunch of overtime when he was sleeping, gambling and doing other stuff. In every other job they call that theft and you get fired and prosecuted. Apparently at LSP you just get some time on the beach and get to keep your rank and pay.

Crazy part is that one of the guys involved was the head of Internal Affairs. The people who investigate this type of behavior. He actually claimed he didn't know what they were doing was wrong. How fricked up is that? If I had been previously disciplined by that guy you better believe I would be appealing.
