two parts here. Do you think Drew may WANT to give some back some of next year's salary to contribute to free agency? And if he did, would he be able to? Can the union block/interfere w/ this? Am I on crazy pills?

I would hope he would help out to get Ingram resigned if that’s what it took. Mark doesn’t want to leave. He wants to finish what he started.

If I were Drew I’d play for $1 so we can sign the best FA available just to poss the NFL off

Agree breed is a traditional Jewish name.

He should only get 3/4 of the pay he only has 3/4 of an arm

He might. IMO he played for the saints for a good bit less than his fair market value this year and there were other teams that would have paid him more. I have to think he wants to come back to win and maybe it means more to him than the money at this point.

despite what has been said, even by him, i think you should be concerned about him returning

a lot will depend on the structure of the team next year

i think drew will be very willing, under the right circumstances, to take less money to load up on talent for one last chance at the SB

i really dont see him coming back if we cant greatly upgrade the talent we have on o-line and receivers. i cant see him coming back for a mediocre season as a way for him to go out

I trust Mickey and Drew will find a way.

Brees cost the Saints $24 million against the salary cap this year, $33.5 million against it in 2019, and for $10.5 million in 2020 after his contract has actually expired. That said, by some creative accounting, the team can change the 2019 number to $27.5 million and the 2020 number to $16.5 million if they decide to convert his roster bonus next season into a signing bonus.

Of course he could. I love the guy and what he’s done for our team, but he’s a shell of himself these days. His only way to go out on top is to defer or take less money so we can get a few difference makers on both sides of the ball.
