Or was Steve Perry just an incredible singer?

Both.
Neal Schon can shred a guitar. Dude is legit! I personally am not a huge Journey fan, but I respect the hell out of them. They were definitely a great band, and it doesn't take a fan to recognize that.

Was also a great live band too.

Yeah, I was watching some live performances last night and was pretty blown away at how tight they were.

Journey was a show for which I had very low expectations and ended up leaving having thoroughly enjoyed it. I say they are good - it’s not their fault that every basic white girl requests don’t stop believing at every karaoke ever.

Great? Well they were no REO Speedwagon or Foreigner, AMIRITE?

And that's probably my least favorite hit. That may have something to do with the fact that I have season tickets to Miss. State football.

They were in the late 70s, early 80s.

And mid 80s. shite. When Steve came back they were great but then he left again.

I know they were popular but I hated them with a passion...i was into college alternative music at the time....but I still change the channel when they come on...

Say what you want about their songs, the deliberately commercial appeal in their Perry-era, what have you, but Schon and Smith (for that matter Rolie) could have played with anyone.

They were basically Santana's band. They split to their own thing and were a San Francisco jam band for few years before they hoked up with Perry and rocketed to pop superstardom

I wouldn't call them a great band but Steve Perry was a great singer. They're a good band, though.
