Man this is a bummer. Their donuts were great.

Loved their maple bacon donuts. Barbecue seems to be a pretty tough thing to do well and be profitable.

The bbq was satisfactory at best.

More restaurants in BR open and close than anywhere else in the country

The first part of that is true, but with practice, it can be done. The problem with the second part is just that BBQ is expensive. You MUST have quality ingredients so that drives the price up. Add in the fact that it takes time (labor costs) to do it right and you just can't have $5 brisket plates and satisfy customers AND not lose money. I used to always complain about prices at good BBQ restaurants until I really started trying to do it myself.

Best thing on the non-breakfast menu.
Ill miss the donuts and breakfast sandwiches most.

The breakfast sandwiches were the best.

Donuts and BBQ was always a strange combination to me.

That was a quick closing, hope the owner is ok since he mentioned his health in his post

I never had the chance to eat here, and it sucks to see a local business go under, but I’m curious how the combination of being both a place that made donuts and BBQ worked?
Again, not trying to be an a-hole, it just seems like a really odd pairing.

The owner purchased Smokin Aces, had the space and all the equipment so combined the two. They made breakfast sandwiches and things so it wasn't a far stretch to combine.

Well that’s not true at all.
And as much as I love to cook there is no way in hell I would ever try that venture. Owning a restaurant is a tough gig for very little money. Hate to see the guy go as above those maple donuts were good-and I’m not a big donut guy.

Any hipster can have the idea to make elaborate donuts or other hip foods. Doesn’t mean they can run a business. I’d like tostada a business where I make nothing but soup. Like the Soup Nazi. Doesn’t mean it’s a good business idea. You’ll never earn enough to keep paying the bills, unless maybe you already owned the property.

Ate there for lunch last week. BBQ was good but the place was filthy and the service was awful

Agreed - the guy who’d always get my donuts looked miserable. Never smiled or said “thank you” or anything. A lot of times they were out of the varieties I wanted, too.

Would you be smiling like a cheetah in a parrot show if you were the guy serving donuts?
