LSU needs to go to a 3.0 GPA for admission policy

If you can't manage a 3.0 in high school, then go through the community college/Southern University system and transfer. Too many dummies in the freshmen and sophomore classes. Probably gonna need a lot of waivers for athletes though.

That would probably cut enrollment in half.

You haven't spent much time in Louisiana High schools

Go ahead and remove “U” or “University” from the title as well.

High schools across the state would automatically give kids a B or better in response.

For everyone? Because that doesn't seem like it takes white privilege into account.

No. GPA is useless in today’s age. Test scores should be the determining factor if anything. Don’t make it unfair for students who actually attended a good school, got a lower GPA than someone who went to an LA pub school, but probably has a high ACT / SAT.

There's far too much TOPS money that's funding all the new buildings along Burbank. Within 6 months after such a change those apartments would start going Section 8.

We can only hope.

There's not too much of any TOPS money

Depends on the high school. But I do agree that they should push more people to start at Community College. They've made it practically painless to transfer from BRCC to LSU and most classes transfer completely.

This, higher GPA's can be obtained by simply doing homework in HS.

Ya think?
I think the model should not be dictated solely on ACT/SAT scores, but grades, extra-curricular and community service/involvement. Ultimately, the goal should be to bring in well rounded people that can be "taught" and will represent the school well during their stay and after graduation in the world. Standards are good, but shouldn't be the closed to exception for exceptional kids.

They don't already do this?
How do you not make a 3.0 in high school?!?

The LSU admissions requirements have historically been higher than the requirements for TOPS. So 100% of the in-state student population that aren't athletes are eligible for TOPS.
I don't want to knock TOPS, but they need to be more selective - so does LSU.

Didn't they do that, already?

High schools are so uneven in grading and there is so much grade inflation I'd go with raising the ACT which is more productive of outcome than GPA at many schools.

If the money us there, then it shouldnt be an issue with giving it out. Just have certain requirements once you get the scholarship and hopefully this is motivation for the students to excel once they get to college.

I had a higher GPA @ LSU than I did in high school.
I was ranked 109 out of 221 in High school but had the 4th highest ACT score.
I think I am the exception more than the rule.
