Acquired an old Cessna. Log books and original ground testing from 1965 states the plane to be a U206 A.

But this particular aircraft has the Continental 470 motor in it and the distinctive faux nose bubble from the 205.

Wiki states the 205's were built from 63-64 and had the 470.

In 65 the 206 was built sans the nose bubble and a Continental 520.

I am having a hard time determining what exactly this plane is.

WIKI

A 205 according to WIKI

My plane

I have the original aircraft log book from when it was built.

Were there any 206's built with the distinctive nose bubbles is really what I want to find out.

ok,I'm getting to the bottom of this. I was told the wrong motor size. This is indeed a 520. But the nose hump has me intrigued for sure.

There is NO WAY that trying to fly a small single engine airplane of unknown pedigree could possibly hurt you.

Off into the wild blue (then green and brown and noisy) yonder (also warm)!

mehh it has log books and an engine with less than 200 hours on it and the glide ratio is 8/1 so I'm fairly confident in it.

This is the standard for confidence I like for my aircraft too.

Have you checked the ball bearings? It's all ball bearings these days.

i would understand the sentiment if I didn't have over 3000 hours of flying under me belt already. I was just asking because of what I was told about the plane having a 470 in it. Now that I've figured out its a 520 I am left wondering abut the nose bulge and when did it go away in the 206.

It's not the first two or three thousand hours of flying, it's that last half a minute of crashing that gets ya.
