Being airlifted from the field is never a good sign.

quote:

BATON ROUGE - A high school football player was injured late Thursday night during the Southern Lab vs. Riverside Academy game.

School officials have confirmed a player from Riverside was injured during the game, and airlifted from the scene. It's still unclear what kind of injuries the player sustained.

Players, coaches, and cheerleaders from both teams were seen kneeling in the middle of the field with their heads bowed while AirMed responded.

The player's name has not been released.

Heard the chopper overhead enroute to OLOL.

Strange they’d airlift from Scotlandville. Must not have been good.

My thoughts exactly. If they only airlifted from north Baton Rouge, it has to be serious.

How do you know that was the same helicopter/same incident?

I suppose it could have been another situation but I’m an aviation junkie and relatively directly in line between Southern and OLOL.

The timing is accurate and the chopper was flying at the right height to be landing at OLOL.

It also sounds different from the BRPD or State Police chopper.

Only thing I can think of is Acadian had their AirMed chopper at KBTR just seconds away and EMS made the call that they could get AirMed to Southern field and to OLOL quicker than via bus.

We were coning into BTR and heard the chopper on the radio take off from OLOL and say he was headed to Mumford Stadium.

update from article:

quote:

Brumfield's coach has confirmed that the teen suffered a 'concussion-like' head injury, and is not paralyzed.

Sounds like they suspected a spinal injury and too extra precaution.

relatively speaking, its good news if just a concussion

God damn, I hope they really really suspected it. Can you believe what his parents were probably thinking when they helicoptered him away?

ETA: Very glad to hear its something minor.
