Par 3 avg 3.68
Par 4 avg 4.91
Par 5 avg 6.02

In my mind I should be much closer to par on par 5s.

I would have thought that the difference in par and the avg would go
Par 5
Par 3
Then par 4 from best to worst.

Every mid teen capper is different. Where are you losing shots? Short game? Off the tee? Approach. Learning that first will help you understand these averages and then in turn help you focus on what needs to be practiced.

Just based off numbers, I can tell you are not hitting the green in regulation or are a terrible putter. Which is it?
Fairways and greens! You need to hit them both.

Par 3 should be your lowest average always imo. Think of it this way, you’ve basically striped a drive and have an easy approach shot left. Now, you also get to tee it up! Imagine every approach for a par 4 being in the fairway, then teeing it up as well. Wouldn’t you expect to score pretty well in that scenario? Par 3s really should be par or better almost every time.

Par 5s require more shots so from that sheer point there are more chances to make a mistake.

I don’t think your reply has anything to do with the topic. Thanks for your admonition of my game.

I wasn’t trying to put you down. You asked if those stats are normal, is there a normal in golf? I was just trying to help you figure out your stats. What’s causing you to drop shots specifically on a par 5? Is it putting or are you not hitting the green in regulation? If it’s, GIR, why? Bad 3w? Club selection? Not getting off the tee?

I play at BDCC. To me these par 5s aren’t easy because I’m not a long hitter. So if I don’t get off the tee it puts more pressure on the next two shots. However, when I do get off the tee, I still find a way to not hit the GIR as well as the occasional three putt. Can’t really pinpoint the number one problem. They all take turns. Lol

Also I am absolutely a wreck on 14 trying to navigate past the water on right.

This would probably apply to a high handicapper, but is the complete opposite for a low handicap. Par 5s will almost always be the lowest score in relation to par for someone under a 5 cap or so.

It’s actually the opposite, par 3s are typically the hardest holes for golfers.

You wreck a par 3 it can frick up your score quickly.

Par 5s are the easiest the better you get.

I know that feeling. On one of our par 5s, I hit 5w, 5w, pw. It’s helped dramatically on that hole. I know if I can get it to 100, I can hit and easy flighted pw

Try to find 1 club that you can hit consistently. Then, try to get the ball to that number in 2. See if that helps.

Thought we were talking about someone that shoots around 90. Yeah as you get better Par 5s are always going to be the better scoring holes on average.

I’m a 9.8 index.

My stats are worse on par 4s, then 3s, then 5s.

It is what it is.

GHIN app allows you to put in hole by hole and even shot by shot if you like. I probably should start putting it in shot by shot to see where I really need the most work.

I do hole by hole.
GHIN stats include you average score overall and your average score on par 3,4, and 5s.

I’m thinking I need to get better at hitting the greens especially on par 4s.

It all depends on where you play honestly. If you play a course mainly that has >150 yd par 3s, then yes, your par 3 averages should be great. If your home course has par 5s that are brutally long or with lots of trouble then they will be weaker.

Do you feel that you are weaker on par 5s in general when you go somewhere to play? Statistics are shite without context.

I shot 66 at my local dirt track Friday afternoon with 4 birdies and an eagle but I knocked in one from 40 yards, knocked one to a foot out a bunker for a birdie and knocked 3 more wedges to within 3 feet. I happened to get off the tee on my typical trouble holes where I lose shots on the tee box. I putted pretty bad but hit lots of greens and hit an iron off nearly all par 4s.

I think for me being a short to medium hitter the par 5s at BDCC keep me from reaching in two. So I’m always playing to reach in three. One bad shot and I’m bogey or double.

And that makes a big difference, especially at that mid to high 80s spot where a bad shot can easily pop up.

How long are the par 3s there?

I play blue.

So depending on pin placement......

4 is usually 160-185....can be 150 if pin up front and tees up front.

9 is usually 150-165....probably easiest

15 is about 110-120 but over water...probably easiest if psychology not involved

17 played about 180 today with pin in back. Plays long no matter what because wind in face.

Have you ever mapped out your second shots into par 4s? What’s the distances you have coming in on those? Get that information and add that to your par 3s. See which yardage you should be practicing more.

I’m a 1.9 hdcp. Play courses anywhere from 6400 to 7100 yds.

Par 3 avg: 3.35
Par 4 avg: 4.22
Par 5 avg: 5.04
