the skinny on Lee vs Hatch...

bear with me...I realize this has been probably talked to death but Im a newbie and insist on putting in my 02...
In the long run...we will have to have a QB who offers the threat of downfield passing...otherwise our big opponents will simply load the box and shut down the run...so the natural instinct is to go with Lee...as the taker of most of the snaps...
Does Hatch have the potential to even offer that passing threat? It would seem like just a complete waste of the overall talent on offense if the opposing D can just line up and stuff the run....
I guess Im saying that we go with the guy who offers the best shot at spreading out opposing defenses...which I think would be Jarret Lee...
thoughts on the LSU QB quandry?

OK, newbie thing. say 2 cents, or $0.02, otherwise your thread will be hijacked and we will be discussing how we got waxed at va tech on labor day.

while i don't agree, good point. i think we use both almost equally (actually all three) unless one emerges as the 'top'.

YES

Its not like their passing is night and day..
But I do agree we will run with 2 QB offense, and with the snaps being 70-30 Hatch starting the season..Of course how they each do will dictate the number of snaps...

Joe Fergason was short passer and had 10 sucessfull years in the pros. How far does the quarterback have to throw the ball to be a threat down field?

in todays age (not joe furgason's) you need an arm in the nfl. ever heard of Danny wuerfall?

yea yea I signed up a while back but didnt start posting until now....big deal....this newbie is not a stranger to internet sports boards...only this one....
maybe the deal with Hatch is all perception...I was at the spring game....he throws a decent pass but of course that means nothing...that perception is going to have to be disproven on the field and is three tune-up games enough to put this guy on our backs and ride into the sec season?
what LSU does not need is to rely on our QB as a running threat like we did with flynn and perriloux last year...it will be nice to have that option with Hatch but certainly should not be the final decision breaker on who to start...
the key to running our spread offense is based on keeping the defense honest...I just think Lee is the guy who offers the better potential to throw the ball around the field than Hatch...
if our opponents know Hatch is just going to run the majority of the time, we are just making opposing defensive coordinators jobs too easy...

4178-
I think so. I'm not saying we will be nc's with a rookie at the helm, but I am confident he will improve. Maybe enough for our OFFENSE to win a few games.
kinda like perriloux last year??

good lord...RP was like 19-25 for nearly 300 yards against the directional tenn squad...then had another great perormance against the real Tenn in the sec title game....

Hatch Highlights
Yes, he runs alot. However, he generally makes good decisions with the ball and doesn't "just run". He also seems to throw an accurate, catchable ball. I didn't like the decision to throw into double coverage (the last play, repeated, on the highlight clip) during the spring game, but it was the spring game, and ironically, it was probably his best and longest pass (at least of the clip.)

How many times did Flynn stretch the defense vertically last season? I'd love to see a stat of how many of his pass attempts actually traveled more than 35 yards in the air?

I, for one, have maintained my prediction that Jordan Jefferson will develop to become an integral part of the Tiger offense by mid to late season.
I read all the opinions that stated he would be a redshirt this year, but Les Miles has recently confirmed that there will be little chance of that. With only three scholarship QBs on the roster, JJ will be developed. He does have a very good arm, and he certainly can throw it deep. I expect to see him play in each and every game, and I expect his role to increase throughout the season. I would be surprised if he starts any games this year, but I believe that he will contend for a starting spot next season , and I think that the QB position will be strong and deep after this year. Next year's issue will be depth along the offensive line, which I feel is a big issue this year, as well.
