Fan throws Tiger’s ball down the cartpath
Watching this replay on the golf channel and it’s amazing that this isn’t talked about a whole lot.
Is the PGA worried that their cash cow would be somewhat tainted? I know there are other instances of fans helping tiger out. Moving the boulder as a “loose impediment” for example.
This instance in the 2000 PGA playoff is crazy. As said in the article if this happened during the social media age it would have blown up like crazy.
What do y’all think happened?

I think the ball hit a curb or something. Too many people around for anything shady to have happened. Someone would’ve made it public by now. Just one of those lucky bounces that you get every now and again

I don’t remember this.
That ball sure did stay out of sight for a bit, but I never saw the other spectators react to anything weird.

The suspicious thing to me was the guy running behind the hill, raising his left arm like he is about to kick a soccer ball, him disappearing for a split second, ball comes rolling out along the cart path as if he kicked it and he is the first one to react and chase after it. Just a weird situation.
Jim Nantz and the other on air personalities at the time are all saying that it looked to have been kicked or thrown be a spectator. Nantz harped on it a couple times and the actual telecast replayed it 3 times and tried to raise questions about what happened.

I see why people believe this happened but, if you step outside the box and think how many people were around when that ball took that odd bounce you’d realize that it would of been spoken about by now.

The ball May have been kicked. And Tiger got a couple of breaks, and had some near catastrophic misses like the par 3 on the back nine where he cleared the bunker by a hair. But the guy made some insanely clutch puts and had one phenomenal chip to 4 feet out of a completely buried lie. By the way May is 52 years old. He looked 52 in 2000

I always believed that the ball hit someone and ricocheted off.
If it glanced off someone's leg or shoe, they might have not noticed it.
Either way, it was a helluva match and Bob May almost beat a giant.

Did the ball go back towards the tee? Or did it go forward? I can’t remember and it’s really hard to tell.

Was watching this last night as well. I'm just glad that 20 years later golf attire has progressed to the point where they aren't wearing clown pants and shirts with sleeves that go below the elbow.

It went down the cartpath toward the green
