Watched Diehard with my 12 year old last night - and man - not only is that a great movie - it just represents such a different (better) time for our country... notable items for me

1. Successful Black police officer
2. Bad guys act like liberal activists - but really just want money (pointed out by Brice Willis wife)
3. Japanese business owner makes WWI joke - no big deal
4. Successful black police officer gets his mojo back and shoots bad guy dead (with his gun - gasp) at the end
5. Race never ever discussed - but lots of black and minorities (FBI agent / police officer / IT Bad guy / Nakatomi / Asian bad guy with the Germans) interacting with no racial issues whatsoever
6. Bruce Willis character has no issues killing bad guys and goes the extra mile to kill the German guy at the end with “extreme prejudice”

I’ve noticed this in a number of movies from the 80’s... race just wasn’t the woke industry it is today - kind of sad - but it was a real eye opener to my kids watching these 80’s movies with my girls and them understanding how race wasn’t such an issue in the 80’s as it has become today.. either the country took like a 40 year break before the Klan became popular again or the woke industry just takes moments and wildly blows them out of proportion for their own gain.. and social media and other modern constructs allow for bumper sticker type ideas so take on a life of their own...

Anyway - just my Thought for the day

We just have a bunch more pussies out there now.

They will definitely get "woke" soon enough and they're not going to like it.

Look at the casts of Predator of mighty ducks. Lots of diversity and none of it was in your face.

Hell, the fresh prince was about a successful black family and very rarely were the issues about their race-usually it was just about the kind of shite that happens to any family. If anything, the folks villified on the show were the ones who made fun of the Banks success (dude from Penn St and the black fraternity guys against Carlton).

Wish we could get back to shows like that. Too bad it'll be a cold day in hell before you see another father figure like Uncle Phil (may God rest his soul) on a mainstream tv show.

This is either a typo or very stupid. Nothing else in the post makes me want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

On what platform are these mythical gunless action movies you're watching located? Did you watch Highlander thinking "These woke 80s pussies only use swords"?

Can you think of a recent action movie in which the hero(es) doesn't kill the bad guys? I guess Sonic didn't kill too many in that movie for kids, but, like, it's totally high time that kids were exposed to all the violence. And, oh shite, Sonic also features minority actors in prominent supporting roles, and race is never mentioned once. I wonder if this thing people like you accuse of being diversity for diversity's sake today is the same exact thing as the diversity in older movies you consider acceptable... Or maybe Sonic was made decades ago and only released in 2020? Who knows, right?

Not about “wokeness,”:but I recently watched the “Movies that Made Us” Die Hard episode on Netflix. I really enjoyed it.

You honestly are having selective memory.

Fresh Prince had episodes dealing with racial profiling from police and courts etc, the Banks were civil rights activists in the 60s and literally threw a Black Power fist in at least one episode..we can continue.

This would make people go crazy and write the show off as BLM "propaganda" if done today.

Those eps were few and far between. The first season was VERY different from subsequent seasons.

Heart attack episode, deadbeat dad episode, sitting on the bunny episode. That was their bread and butter.

Heck, even when will went back to fight the bully that sent him out west in the first place the dude had turned his life around.

Family matters had more of that profiling stuff than fresh prince did

Dude just stop lol your point is not made.

Again if any show today had just one episode of the protagonists doing Black Power salute and or complaining about police and racial profiling it would be deemed woke "propaganda."

Fresh Prince had some great episodes dealing with race. The episode where Carlton and Will get arrested for the bullshite traffic violation and Aunt Viv teaching black history come to mind. But in the former Uncle Phil goes ham on the cops not only as a father but a judge, and the latter really deals with Viv chastising Will for being a black man and not taking the history seriously, thinking he gets a pass just because he’s black. I always thought they dealt with social issues in a really honest and transparent way.

Is the Predator hunting the plucky hockey team who mist use team work and friendship to defeat the elite extraterrestrial assassin, is the Predator trying to learn how to play hockey and make friends by joining the mighty ducks, or is there an entire hockey team of predators that the mighty ducks must defeat in a galactic hockey tournament to somehow save Earth?

I just want you to know that there are no wrong answers, and that I would absolutely watch any of these movies

I concur wholeheartedly with the OP's take.

As for scenes in the movie the scene that was by far the most ridiculous and incredulous moment of Hollywood fantasy occurred very early on when Karl went to cut the phone lines...

a chain saw that starts on the first pull????
