In addition to the German Chancellor & Mexican President, 2 French ministers said they were "shocked" & disturbed by the spate of Silicon Valley censorship, including against Trump, calling tech giants "the digital oligarchy" & a "threat to democracy."

This will be the end of social media. Or at least, the platforms that currently dominate the landscape. They'll all go under for this.

Next move is for several of these countries to nationalize these platforms. They'll dissolve. Competitors like Gab will eventually take their place.

I hope people start moving to other social media platforms around the world besides FB and Twitter.

Pretty sure Germany and France do. They just recognize the danger here, so principle overrides TDS.

The only way this happens is if someone like Elon Musk (who can afford it) creates a cell phone competitor. It does no good to create an alternate social media platform if two cell phone companies have a pseudo-monopoly of that arena and pull those competing apps from their marketplace, which is exactly what happened with parlor. Everything is interconnected. You can't only address one thing, and only a handful of people on planet earth have the capital to do anything about it from the source.

What is happening is what always happens with something like this. Regulations will be introduced to control what websites can and can't do. The regulations will massively increase the costs of running a website and will also serve to freeze the industry in place indefinitely.

Europe lived through this less than 80 years ago, so they have the perspective. They’ve also been much more aggressive against tech regarding antitrust, this will hopefully accelerate that.

If anyone would know what unfair censorship looks like, it's Germany.

When the line is drawn, these are the nations who will align themselves with freedom fighters.
The list will only grow . . . .
