340$ for luxury car for a week booked on a “no cancellation” reservation. After getting in around 1am eastern I made my way to thrifty and there was well over 150 pissed off ppl in a line that stretched damn near the length of the airport. I spoke to one guy on my journey to the back of the line that said he had already been waiting over 4 hours. It was so bad that I spent an extra 430$ to book on the spot with Alamo which had no line and got me on my way in minutes. Paying for an an entire week separate car rental was worth it to me not waiting until daylight in that miserable line. Several ppl said that this was an every day deal with Thrifty at MCO. Just a warning to all my Disney /universal peeps.

Sounds like you were lucky. Rental car game is a disaster right now.

Idk man. I’ll be lucky if I can somehow convince Priceline to get me a refund. I know per their rules I am not entitled to one but I requested one and they are “opening a case to look into it “. Fingers crossed.

Do I have to wait for it to post first ?

This is actually the route I was prob going to take. Booked it on my chase freedom card. Thought I could dispute it saying they didn’t have the type of car I reserved or maybe say they were out of cars.

I wouldn’t. Call now. Rental company might bark you as no show

I called. They said it has to post before they can do anything.

I've had awful experiences with Thrifty on multiple occasions. I only rent national now.

I would be aggravated too, but I also feel for those in the travel industry which were hurt so badly by the lockdown they had to sell their fleet and lay off employees. Obviously doesn't make it right to treat customers badly.

I get that, but if you have a reservation there is no reason to have to wait so long for your car.

no issues with Avis on a Friday morning in Denver this weekend. My vehicle was ready and waiting with the keys in it

my advice to all this summer and fall is to prepay, and don’t pick the cheapest car. Splurge a little at booking and avoid ruining day 1 of your vacation

Prepay

Starting to think this is a terrible idea. Especially if there isn’t a flexible cancellation option.

I recently booked a rental through thrifty at SLC airport. There was one agent working with about 50 people in line waiting. The other rental companies didn’t have but a couple people in line. I went online and canceled Thifty and rented from Enterprise instead. I probably would have been in line for hours waiting.

I’m an Emerald Club member with National. I don’t have to bother with lines at the counter, assuming it’s a major airport. I just go straight to the Emerald Aisle, pick out my car, drive it to the gate, check in with the person there, and drive off.

I have rented several cars since COVID (including two in foreign countries) and haven’t had a problem.

Prepay with a solid credit card and let them handle it if the rental car company effs you.

exactly

pick a rental company, sign up for the rewards program or similar, prepay and walk right out to your car. It’s not some secret on how to avoid standing in line with angry people and exasperated counter agents.
