Visiting New Orleans

Friend of mine is a huge LSU fan and invited me to the Auburn game on October 2. I am thinking of going and might visit New Orleans as long as I was in the state. I really don't know much about the city other than the French Quarter. Aside from that, what is a nice tourist area for someone who has never been to the city? Appreciate any feedback

You’re probably not going to like how this goes.

You need to post this on the travel board or maybe the food and drink board.

Yeah I knew that was canceled. Would have been fun to visit. I was hoping there were not going to be a lot of restrictions/cancellations of events but it seems to be the case. Kind of sucks for a tourist

You’d probably have more fun visiting Sorrento

After you’ve visited the usual historic landmarks such as the hard rock hotel collapse site- you should venture out of the quarter to the garden district and magazine street area.

I’ve heard the WWII museum is good

Im being serious. I had more fun going to to br for the bama game last season than being in new orleans during this shite.
But bars were closing early and the mask bullshite was in full force.

Are bars heavily restricted now?

The Quarter is getting some seriously bad publicity with shootings right now. Granted they aren't randomly shooting tourists but it's still not a great look. I'd still tour the quarter but do it in the morning through the afternoon. It's better to see the historic architecture and buildings during the day anyway. And you can still stroll around with Hurricanes from Pat O's any time of day.
You should also schedule a swamp boat tour. Fall is the best time of year for this. Unlike where you hail from, it'll probably be warm that weekend.
You can also meander down the river from Baton Rouge back to New Orleans and visit a few plantations along the way.
The National World War II Museum is amazing if you can get in there for at least 4-5 hours if not more.
We gonna kick Aubie's arse this year so be ready for animosity from Tiger fans on Game Day.

That weekend is the French Quarter Festival weekend, which may or may not happen.

Bring some friends from
Chicago in for the Florida game. We are doing Nola Thursday night then br Friday and sat. Going to hit some local spots (not bourbon) in Nola and go down Frenchman then magazine and end up in midcity.
There is a lot of fun to be had in the city
