I know we're sick of the USWNT's bullshite, but Lloyd was never really a part of that stuff. Instead, she was just a straight up badass for a long time.

Played in 4 World Cup and 4 Olympics with 128 goals in 312 caps is insane.

Her midfield goal against Japan in the 2015 World Cup final was pretty fricking awesome too.

Was she always one to resist kneeling?

Was her refusal the reason she is resigning?

She’s almost 40 and plays forward

That’s probably the reason.

Age has finally caught up to her. Hell of a player and incredibly successful career. She also caused no drama just like it should be.

I'm just curious if her decision to not kneel in that last game was because she knew she was retiring. It seems that way...unless she's been doing that this whole time and I just haven't noticed.

ETA: It seems she's been refusing to kneel for at least some time before the Olympics...good on her.

She's retiring because she's old and the next meaningful tournament is two years away.

The number of oldies on that team was proof of the politics in US women’s soccer.

No way there are not young players better than many on that team.

This really is not that difficult: she is nearly 40 and wants to have a baby or two...that's it. Nothing to see here accept one of the very, very best to ever wear the USA jersey step away.

What money? For who exactly? The only one that seems to have benefitted is Rapinoe.

If you think US Soccer has been killing it the last couple of years, they haven't. They had to get a loan from the government last year because their finances were such a mess. And that was at the beginning of the pandemic, so it wasn't Covid related.

It was 100% COVID related. They got the loan through the CARES Act. They had to furlough a lot of employees and get rid of a few executives because of COVID.

It wasn't 100% Covid related when the men fail to qualify for a World Cup, and the women are taking them to court.

They still had plenty of money if it wasn't for COVID. They still had a ~$40M surplus.

They had over $160 million a few years ago.

No shite. They spent money on things. However, they were still fine until COVID hit.
