1st overall pick strategy

12 team PPR keeper (can’t keep same keeper 2 years in a row)
I have pick 1 and am obviously gonna take McCaffery. My keeper is most likely gonna be Montgomery round 4.
At the 2/3 turn, I was set on going WR/WR. But now I see that the wr class is kind of deep. Now I have thoughts of going WR/ Mahomes, Allen, or Murray (whoever is best available).
What would you all do?

Don't go into the draft locked into a strategy. Wait to see who is available. Personally, I would be looking for the best RB and/or WR combination available. Nothing wrong with coming away with 3 RBs and a WR with your first 4 picks if you have a flex option. If there aren't enough RBs and WRs there that you like, I would grab an elite TE. QB is just so deep that for me that's a last resort in the top 3 rounds.

Generally I go into a draft and try to draft good players and then I don’t draft the shitty ones

Call me crazy but I would consider triple’ing down on rbs with #1 . I feel like this draft is SO deep at WR . I’d have cmc in my queue and about 3-4 other tier 2 rbs on my radar . If they’re there at the turn I’d go all in on rb. You can get good wr value very late in this draft but after 3 rounds or so RB turns into a wasteland it seems.

I’d draft at least 1 RB at the 2/3 turn, someone like Carson.

I’ve done a bunch of mocks at 2nd in a 12. Pretty decent chance that Waller falls to you, if so I think him and say Terry McLaurin would be a great 2/3 for you. I’ve seen AJ Brown fall there plenty too (in that case going WR/WR and ending up with him and Terry might be the way to go).
More times then not, Murray and Lamar have been there at 4/5 for me in mocks.
CMC - Waller (or AJ) - McLaurin - Montgomery would be a legit first four.
These options are what I’m seeing in Yahoo mocks, could be going differently in other draft rooms.

I'm first pick and this is more or less my strategy. Obviously it depends on who's available but I'm leaning towards CMC, waller & best rb available. I am not a fan of the rbs at the 4/5 turn so I'd rather get my rb2 done early. CEH is who I'd love to see fall but I doubt he does. This would leave me with choosing between Montgomery, Dobbins, Carson and swift. It changes every day but I've been feeling Montgomery lately.
I love the wrs in the mid rounds so I'm okay with punting that position for a few rounds.

Depends on how you value Carson vs a Damien Harris/Chase Edmonds/Javonte Williams/Darrell Henderson
I don't think it's crazy to go WR/WR at the 2-3 turn considering that fills your top 4 starters.
Could be looking at something like
CMC
Metcalf
Jefferson
Montgomery
Hard to say without knowing everyones keeper, but if you're keeping Montgomery in the 4th and drafting CMC a 1.01, you can get two stud receivers at the turn

That was my thought process too.
Also, I'm still in debate for my keeper... regardless it will be at the 4/5 turn with Montgomery (4) or Swift (5). Both obviously won't last until then so theres value there. I just cant point on who has more upside this year. Right now, my gut says Montgomery

Waller or Kittle
Then the top WR/RB (probably WR)
Anything but RB RB RB
Then the top WR/RB (probably WR)
Anything but RB RB RB

Nothing wrong with going rb rb rb if there is two guys you like at good value on the turn. It just depends how the draft plays out. If you play two rbs and a flex that is a good strategy bc you will likely have slim pickings at rb in the 4th. I love being able to have a 3rd good rb in my flex. Also gives you flexibility if there is an injury. WR can be filled later. There is always so much depth there. Sometimes the value is too good to pass up though. I uses to always pick one of the top 3 tight ends in the 3rd but lately my league has caught onto that. I have found success the last 2 years finding a breakout tight end later in the draft. (2019-Darren Waller, 2020-Hockenson). Tight end break outs are not that difficult to predict if you look at camp reports and opportunity.
