Widower here with a 15 year old who out of nowhere says he wants to go on this trip through his school. He's a pretty sheltered kid who does very little other than game. Lost his mother at 12 years of age. The school is not really telling much other than giving me this link.
I am so in the dark I do not even know what to ask. Kind of expensive, but it really seems like a great opportunity for a kid like mine. Any information or recs or "Don't do it!"s would be appreciated.

I did an EF tour in high school, and know plenty of people who have done them in high school and college. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip, and haven't heard anyone give a negative review. For sure more expensive than planning it yourself, but for the quality of tours it is probably worth it.
If you can swing the cost, it's going to be a great experience for him IMO.

my neighbors' daughter went a couple of years ago (France & Italy) she loved it, her only issue was dropping her phone in a river on day 1 of the trip

My daughter did it with her high school French Club. I went with them (I am the the Mom) and we had great time. She wanted me to go with her because she didnt want to room with anyone else.

They are expensive but well worth it especially to enjoy with classmates
Just make sure you understand any cancellation policies or refund deadlines or get the insurance - you know how 15 year olds can be

Sounds like a wonderful gift for your boy. Agree with the post above: get insurance to cover cancellations whether travel or Covid related. You never know. Then, get him pumped by having him do some research on the itinerary before hand.

Do it. It will be great for his perspective and I'm sure will be an experience he'll remember for the rest of his life

These are the responses I had hoped to read. He's signed up. Will be ordering a family platter from Apollo soon

My senior year of HS like 30 of us did an EF tour during spring break for senior trip. We did Italy and Greece. A principal and a couple of her family members were the chaperones. It was awesome. Got hammered the entire time.

I traveled to Europe (France, England, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany) with ACIS through my school when I was 16. It is, to this day, one of the most memorable experiences of my life, and I'm in my mid-40's, LOL. It was such an "a ha" moment for me. Hard to explain, really.
There is nothing that beats seeing things in real life, especially when you're talking about world renowned monuments and historically significant places. It's all just abstract when you're that age until you physically see it. I will absolutely send my kids on one of these trips.
