Suggestions for visiting NOLA and Lafayette

Hello all and good morning. My cousin got married last Friday and is taking a road trip honeymoon. We’re from church Pennsylvania, but he’s currently in FL. He’s looking at headed to New Orleans and possibly Lafayette. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Any guidance would be appreciated. It’s been 5+ years since I’ve been in the area. Google shows that The Harbor closed. Little place near airport with amazing eggplant pirogue. French Quarter was where we usually hung. There was a great rib place in BR with a giant Mike the Tiger statue out front. Only drove through Lafayette on the way to Texas. Would y’all recommend stopping there? Thank you all!

His best bet is to skip Louisiana and stop at Bucee's in Baytown.

Step 1: Don't say Nawlins, it'll identify you as a tourist and can lead to bad things.
Step 2: Take every thing out of the car when you park.
Step 3: The quarter sucks - explore Magazine St and the uptown area.

For serious answers you should post on the travel board and/or food board.

My suggestion would be to tell your cousin to take their honeymoon somewhere else. New Orleans and Lafayette? Dear lord why? I mean they’re decent places to visit but not for a milestone trip like a honeymoon.

I know right? It's not like Nola wasn't ranked as the #1 wedding destination city in the country for several years in a row before Covid hit.

in around Lafayette there’s plenty of cool things to do.
If they’ve never been, a day trip to Avery island to see the Tabasco operation and the gardens is a great fun, if the weather is nice.
in town one of my favorite restaurants is Pamplona (tapas and the best sangria you’ll find). Very fun and quite romantic. Also Johnsons Boucaniere would be a really cool stop if they’ve never been to Acadiana before.
In New Orleans I would stick to magazine street and the warehouse district, plenty to do and see and eat. The WW2 museum is spellbinding and well worth a visit. Depending on the day of week there should be live music at many venues, if there’s a show at tipitinas tell them to do that. If casamentos is open, great lunch stop for oysters which are in season now.

Also the usual Nola suggestions of riding the street car down St. Charles. Hop off to go have a drink at Hot Tin Roof or Columns Hotel. Get dinner somewhere along St. Charles and not on Bourbon St.
City Park has added a lot of stuff over the last 10 years and is def. worth a visit.

yes that’s a great suggestion. Someone in NOLA for the first time should definitely ride the streetcar (during the day). OP also if the weather is nice tell them to think about heading to bayou beer/wine garden for drinks, snacks, etc. very cool place with mostly locals
