they're not going to ID one young person and not the other. Doesn't happen
ETA: fwiw, I agree that it will rarely happen, I just don't see where "discrimination" comes into play

Here's my trick: The person of age orders first. If they aren't ID'd, the person underage orders next. It would be discriminatory for them to just ID 1 person unless the "of age" person was over the age of 40.
maybe not for a couple, but for bigger groups they'll wait for everyone to order drinks and then ask for the whole table (or whoever ordered drinks) to show IDs. I found this more common than individually IDing after each drink order.

you are supposed to ID anyone that looks under 40
Yet you don't get carded. Maybe you look older than you think.

as a former bouncer for 10 years here is the trick. get your overage friend to buy the drink for you. next trick sit your arse down and drink your drink dont go wondering around the bar with a drink in your hand and also underage. nothing pissed me off more than a kid with a giant X on his hand carrying a beer around or better yet trying to sit with in eye sight of the bar and drink it.

Is this not a pretty serious crime in LA?
Likely not....
I wouldn't buy a drink for an underager no matter what.

Everybar between Burbank and Nicholson and almost every bar in TL. If you can't geta drink you're doing it wrong.

Absolutely. I actually already have a daughter there, so this just makes it twice as good.

Gator boots...ah the memories...
Every time I hear "catch the wall, fool" I tear up a little bit.

The strip in Laffy is (at least used to be) like this. Walk into McKinley St. Pub for drinkin on a lincoln and they give you an X or a band, either way you're getting a cup.
Sogo was very easy in it's day.

Ahhh hearkens me back to the Golder Era when a 13 year old boy and his girlfriend could leave Holy Name and head over to Shanahan's for a nice ice cold pitcher of beer. True story.....

I'm pretty sure you can get away with underage drinking at just about anywhere that lets you in the door as long as you're not foolish about it.
But the best trick I've seen is one of my younger buddies used to come to the bar with us and grab an empty beer bottle off a table, walk up to the bar and say "I need another," b/c no bartender is going to card you twice.
