We've enjoyed French Market Bistro which is in a nice area of the city.
Completely agree, however I chose not to put them there as I believe the same owner also owns Mansurs and in my opinion, very similar dishes can be had at both (or at least this is my perception).

I’ve never been and probably should.

One note regarding the Ninos vs Ginos discussion for OP:
Ginos is much more of the traditional, old school Italian type of spot. Ninos has much more of a Louisiana twist and a little more versatility IMO, which is why I prefer them

Anyone know if looking at Yelp is worth it for BTR dining?
Eh, its hit or miss. Just looking at the top 10 on Yelp in BR, there are some great places, and some head scratchers... I'd try to stick to the recs in this thread, just about all of them are good.
ETA: If I had to only do 3 for a lunch, Dinner, lunch... I'd go Elsie's, I'd pick one from Cap Crunch's dinner list, and I'd probably go to a Parrains type place if you want to get a cajun/seafood fill.

Yeah, they're the same owner, but I've only been to FMB. Mansurs is on my to do list.

Grab a couple muffulettas and a meatball Poboy from Cannatella’s or Anthony’s on your way out of town. Both on Government street

Is Maison Lacour still around?
Yes but not open on Sunday or Monday.

Will be arriving BTR about noon or 1pm Sunday 3/8 so will need a lunch/brunch spot and then dinner spot for Sunday night (prob be the best for a nice dining spot). Then breakfast/lunch either at hotel or somewhere nearby thats good
Check out Louie's for breakfast on Monday morning. It's walking distance from Cook and has really solid diner/breakfast food.

Jazz Brunch at Rouj Creole or Brunch at Superior Grill.

I'll second Louie's Cafe. 5 min from Lod Cook on State St. Great little diner

best new place in BR is bldg5 in my opinion.
2nd this. Go for dinner though. Lunch is more market style, but dinner is awesome. Its the “place to be” right now so your son might enjoy that.

Ninos is great food wise, but not where I’d take a college student I’m trying to sell on BR. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired and last time I was there, I was the youngest person by easily 30 years

I don't disagree, and the same thing could be said about Zorbas. But OP said they're all foodies, so I'm not putting atmosphere into account too much.

Fair enough
I’ve got to get over to Zorbas. Still never been.

I will be honest, the last time we went the service was pretty bad. Our waitress was no where to be found for a while, which is amazing because they weren't busy at all, like usual.
But the food is always great, so I won't give up on them yet. I just don't have high hopes that they'll make it that much longer.

That's been my issue. A few weeks ago went there because the wait looked awful at Bldg 5. We sat at the bar for 10 minutes before even getting a menu or being acknowledged, then they disappeared again. Not egregious offenses if the place is packed but it wasn't even remotely busy. Said frick it, we'll go deal with the wait at Bldg.
hasn't been mentioned yet but I think Bin has underrated food and should be a solid atmosphere on a Saturday night with music
Lagniappe never disappoints either. Probably also have the most reasonable drink prices for other restaurants in its price point. Closes relatively early because well he can

If you want Cajun food, drive to Lafayette.
If you want Creole food, drive to New Orleans.
If you want to be disappointed, stay in Baton Rouge.
Not sure what's worse, trolling the food & drink board or being this out of touch

I think TJ Ribs is your best shot. Get the wings (sauce on side).
Also has excellent steaks and the LSU themed restaurant will stand out for someone trying to be sold on LSU.
Its recently remodeled and a Baton Rouge staple.
