I highly recommend. It's definitely different from Gino's. Gino's is Southern Italian, old school Italian and Nino's is lighter, Northern Italian.
ETA: I should have read Cap Crunch's comment one below Will Cover's.

Yea, Nino's leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to ambiance (I think partial that's because how small it is). I'd love to see them move into a bigger space with a full service sit down bar. I'd go a lot more if they had such.

If you are staying at Lod Cook, take a drive down Highland Road from campus.... will see a nicer area of town. U could grab a late lunch/brunch at Ruffinos, Superior (Mexican) or jazz brunch at Rouj Creole goin that way.
For dinner, Mansur’s is on Corporate Blvd where they can see the Whole Foods/Jefferson area.... and get some charbroiled oysters while in town.
Monday lunch would be good at Overpass Merchant close to hotel or riding by Rocca for a pizza on your way out.

Another vote for Mansur’s

Got the baby stuffed bells. Were cold and the pepper wasn’t quite tender enough. Still too crunch.
Got the little Italy board. Eggplant was cold and tough. Polenta was really good and the meatballs were really good. Caprese was good but my five year old niece can put that together. Nothing else on the board stood out.

I’d recommend Red Zeppelin for an afternoon beer and pizza over Rocca.

Rocca...bleh
roooftop bar at Chimes would be a good option if the weather is good. Just don't go much further past that if you want to sell them on Baton Rouge

I love Rocca but I never get the pizza.

I had dinner last night at Mansurs, it never disappoints. Charbroiled oysters, catch of the day was cobia / lemon fish.

I mean, if you’re “foodies” in the sense that you’re looking for a place with wagyu beef tartar and the like, you’ll be disappointed.
But man, Maison Lacour is damn hard to beat.

Thank you Boss and everyone. Sounds like its a tossup for dinner between Mansurs and Maison Lacour for the best food/experience. Is the Superior your mentioned the same as the Superior in Shreveport? Im thinking Elsie’s def is in contention for Sunday brunch. And Overpass Merchant for Mon sounds perfect as well. Campus tour is at 1pm Mon, then headed to NOLA for a night and Tulane tour Tues. We did one at Tennessee/Knox in Nov 2018 and man it was unfortunately not very good and the girl who led (just our family) around was just not the right match for us - knew nothing about the greek system and was in some really unusual major and just kinda half-assed it. Knox is a neat town though. Hoping the LSU tour week after next is MUCH better...I wish these kids could actually interact with like-minded students on these tours...just an example so dont flame me - putting an engineering major tour leader with a kid who is interested in greek system, finding a hunting lease, keg beer, sorority girls, maybe a forestry or wildlife-related major and meeting a few more sorority girls, doesnt seem like a good match. They didnt even ask what my kids interests were for the tour. Hell, id gladly pay a couple of cool guys whatever to take him around for a day or two and give him a real taste of life at LSU. No way you can really see that on these tours. I guess they just stick you in a group of about 20-30 people with whatever leaders are available that time and all the little herds just move around campus for 2hrs. Man, fingers crossed we get lucky and a good guide. I hope im overthinking this dadgumit...hahaha

Gotcha and thanks Abita. We arent foodies to that extreme. I just want to show them that BTR has some great spots where the locals in the know go to dine, whether they want Italian, Creole or whatever. Just food quality food with legit chefs in the back. In otherwords, not just a Popeyes, Canes or Papa Johns on every other corner. I just dont know the city at all like you guys do. Before coming to this past Nov A&M game, my last game was the ‘91 home game vs Florida State and I remember two distinct things well about that evening...1. It rained like 15 inches and 2. LSU was up early on but then this sombich Amp Lee caught fire and i mean frickin fire...I was not too Crazy ‘bout Curley that night hahaha - Seemed like all LSU fans were all chanting LSU LSU LSU as loud and proud as possible even in defeat as they were piling out of the stadium (in the continuing deluge). This was the last FSU game I think and the follow up to the prior year’s big brawl. We were so soaked we went into a fast food restaurant of some sort and bought as many articles of clothing we could off the employees, who were in acute shock. I think I wore a dirty chefs apron back to NOLA. Just an apron. Or maybe this was all just a dream, no actually a nightmare. I mean Amp Lee cant be a real name, right?

I got you. I haven’t read through this whole thread so I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but Beausoleil has never disappointed. Highly recommend. As well as City Pork on Jefferson Highway.

People downvoted my Rum House brunch suggestion, but it's one of the best in BR, and constantly raved about on here...

With all respect,
If the restaurant you must try before you die
Is in BR, something has gone horribly wrong.

This is the thing I love about Mansurs. One of the few places in town with regular offerings of different fresh fish. I’ve had Cobia, Corvina, Tirpletail, Arctic Char, as opposed to Lagnaippe which has turned to only having Tuna, Salmon and Black Drum. All well executed, but seems like the owner hS gotten lazy since they opened (he has connections to get different fish, just doesn’t). Rouj Creole and Souji for very good, eclectic offering and nice scenery. Chimes rooftop to get a nice flavor of campus and a better than decent Sunday brunch.
