I now am a proud owner of Weber Performer and will never go back to gas. I plan on getting about 20 years out of this grill.
I've on my second in 5 years, good luck.

if you are tired of babysitting your meat, then what would you recommend (if you dont mind my asking)?

I just think it's a bit more versitile than that offset. YMMV.

These grills are awesome. Guy with our tailgating group last weekend brought this out and I had never seen it before. It is made by the same guy that makes the cajun fryers that are sold bass pro shop. Two "jet" burners move the heat in on each side. No flare ups. Really well built. Very easy to regulate temperature and we got it up to almost 700 degrees one time and maintained it as low as 200 another day.

i got this about 3-4 years ago. it is still in pretty good condition, but i probably wouldnt buy a charbroil again. they are still selling these at home depot, yet i cant find any replacement parts. i am gonna try and squeeze a few more years out of this thing then ill probably buy a weber.
thats the best thing about webers. with a weber you can at least go down to home depot or lowes and get replacement grills or starters for your that will fit your particular model.

I have that exact unit. Cannot wait to sell it. I just don't have the time anymore to babysit an offset.
Smoking a porkshoulder on that thing is a job. It works for me, but I have to check it once an hour which is a pita.

You do realize that Weber has a 10 year warranty on most of their stuff. What did you do to your grill that you only got a couple of years out of it? I've had my Performer for 4 years now and it has shown very little wear and tear to date. I'm also a member of a Weber message board where many customers get 20 plus years out of their Weber charcoal grills.

Get a Weber Smokey Mountain. I can get 16 hour burn times with no fiddling of the vents and not having to add charcoal.

Kamado Joe. Ceramic charcoal cooker, about 10 to 15% less than a BGE and a 20year warranty on all ceramics. Comes in different colors as well. cook anything from 200 to 800 plus degrees. Whether you are cooking for 15 minutes or 20hrs you wont have to add charcoal except at the start.

Another suggestion to muddy the waters. Broil King grills. They are a Canadian company. Mine is NG. No complaints. Better made than weber and a few bucks cheaper.

This grill will last two years at the most.

How's that warrant a $400 grill with the same specs? This ain't Kia versus Honda. Grills don't leave you on the side of the road or kill your children with defective axles and shite.
I used to think this way many years ago. I bought a Weber Genesis about 15 years ago and upgraded to a Weber Summit about 5 years ago. My original Weber now belongs to my mother-in-law and still works great. I upgraded because I now have 4 kids and often have large groups over for cookouts.
The difference in grills is more than just how long they last. I never worry about burning my food with the Weber. Their flavorizer bars really do a good job of preventing flares from turning your food into charcoal. What people don't tell you is that when your cheap $100 grill deteriorates, hot spots become worse, flareups turn into raging fires, and just lighting your grill can be an adventure.
My Webers stay the same, and consistency is a beautiful thing.
My recommendation would be the Weber Genesis 3 burner - NOT the stainless steel version. Stainless is too hard to keep looking nice and adds no functionality improvements. I think the OP is looking in the right direction...

I bought the BBQ Grillware stainless charcoal grill from Lowes for about $250 a few years back. It works very well. You can read about it and see a pic here: LINK

Forgot to mention this on my earlier post. My old 15 year-old grill is still working fine because I can still get the parts at Home Depot. Almost all of the other grill brands mentioned on here have undergone significant design changes over the years that make finding parts for older models a bitch. I know people who have had to throw out their $300 Char-Broil after 3 years because they can't find burners and the generic stuff doesn't work very well.

To the OP...just get the Genesis already. They will last forever, cook anything you want with relative ease and save you headaches in the future. I like charcoal as much as the next guy, but it's not worth the hassle.

The green egg is awesome but I wouldn't say it is the best bang for your buck.
I wanted to put my foot up my wifes butt when she bought me the egg... a year later, I wouldn't trade it in for anything...love it.

DO IT ! Worth EVERY PENNY. They moved the control knobs to the front and left the left side arm free for space this year. I have an Egg too, use it for smoking, but for steak, burgers, chicken, sausage, and anything quick there is no comparison. The GENESIS is the way to go. You will get what you pay for, just ask anyone who has one or read the reviews online. Good luck !

So, I bought the Genesis E-310 at Lowes this evening. $677 after tax with 10% military discount. Not too shabby. Throw in $215 worth of gift cards, and my cost: $462. Assembled and delivered free.
I was torn between the E-310 and E-330 (adds side burner and sear burner) b/c of the sear burner (don't really care about the side burner). I was deliberating over whether it was worth the extra $100 for the sear function, and in the end, realizing it was just an extra burner between the left and center burners, decided against it. I figure that I can sear just fine above one burner on max heat. Am I wrong here?
