And their are several distinct food regions in Mexico. So there is no one "authentic" type of mexican food.
true, but you can also look at some places and know it's not "authentic" for any part of mexico....unless American suburbs are now considered part of mexico.

You haven't looked.
There are five in BR that I can be at in less than 10 minutes.

Why? Most places that I've ever been to that bill themselves as "authentic" are Tex-Mex places with mediocre food. Other places that are actually authentic don't have good chips and salsa typically but the food is great.
because there are literally hundreds of mexican restaurant in DFW---why should i eat at one with shitty salsa when i can drive 100 yards and eat at one with great salsa and great food.

My point is that most people who care about chips and salsa and judge a restaurant accordingly, aren't really there for the food. Your list of places was pretty shitty, even by Tex-Mex standards-Fonda San Miguel being the exception.

Abuelo's is pretty good in my book, and my little girl likes La Hacienda mainly because of the fireplace....
Like I said there are hundreds of little authentic no name restaurants all over the metroplex and most I've eaten at are very good.
The chips and salsa to me are as important as the food. If either sucks I will not go back. I would never go to a mexican restaurant that has great food, but their chips and salsa suck arse and vice versa.
I can't speak for "most" people and their mexican restaurant ethics.....only my own!

Just to chime in with some of the ignorance of this thread, I ate at Papacitas in the Houston Hobby airport last week. It was pretty authentic because several of the employees were speaking spanish.
