Who told you it was going to be "near-religous"?

Many people told me that it had been named "Best Roast Beef Poboy" in New Orleans by numerous sources, and that it'd be the best poboy I'd ever eat. Just curious, what would your recs be?

All those best of list are BS, at least until running tiger does one.

I do think that R&O's RB is probably the best in the city. I don't think of it as anything near a religous experience though.

And I've knocked R&O's in general down on my listing of go to places quite a bit because of their BS stunt with the reality restaurant show.
And they are going too far with the idea of keeping the place "authentic and funky". Place feels dirty to me now and some of those servers could use a bitch slap.

Was the service exceptionally shitty?

R&O's is a dump and not in a good way. The floors are filthy, the menus are nasty, the decor is pitiful, the servers are slovenly and unkempt and one can see into and smell the bathroom at some tables nearby. The roast beef is good but not worth going into that environment.

You will not get a better roast beef po-boy than R&O's.

Service can be slow, but it's worth it. Good atmosphere, easy parking, fun place.

I have never had a "religious experience" from any po-boy ever. Sounds like expectations might have been beyond the scope of possibility.

I've had a religious experience with a poboy once but it wasn't because of the quality of the sandwhich.

I rarely order RB so I don't have a list.

I'm a Parkway and Guy's guy. I don't think I've never heard anyone say R&O's was some poboy mecca. I would recalibrate your expectations and look elsewhere.

And you call yourself a foodie

I thought it was common knowledge that R&O's RB was among the best in town for many years.

Actually, it was pretty bad. We had one person who took our drink order... another took our food order... the one who took the drink order brought the food... the one who took our food order checked on us a couple times... then a completely different chick brought us our check.

I don't really like the roast beef at r&os

Gravy reminds me of packet gravy but at least they cook beef in house

When I get the rb Ithere I always get it with provolone cheese to mask the gravy flavor that I don't particularly like

I believe you live in Kansas or Iowa, somewhere like that, have never been to New Orleans (or Chicago for that matter) and just make shite up as you go along.

I never really got this from their gravy.

Their service is a different story. FOr me, it depends on the waitress you get. A few of them are nice there and a few of them are not so nice.

In reference to the list in the link, are the Bear's restaurants in Old Metairie and Covington connected? I worked with a guy who said the first place he goes when he comes home to Covington is Bear's for the roast beef. My mom and I went last year and got a shrimp poboy. It was the best shrimp we'd ever eaten.
