they give you an option of your choice of beans.....and your choice of rice...... he now has his version of RedBeans as an option.

i ate some the night before the opening n Metarie...they were pretty dang good. i am gonna try it on my burrito next time im down there.....

if it takes off, he will add it to the menu in BR.....just like the shrooms...if there is enough demand in Metairie - he will add them

I dont understand why he doesn't offer shrimp year round in BR... Why only during lent? I'd get them at least half the time I went.

I'm with you, if Izzo's offered shrimp year round, they would have been at the top of my lunch list while in BR.

I wonder if he has ever thought about adding grilled fish to the menu? Grilled fish tacos+Izzo's fresh veggies would be out of this world.

I've talked to Ozzie a couple times about this very thing. He said that he would like to add it permanantly, but that it really causes some problems that run counter to their mission. He wants the ingredients to be fresh and tasty, and he wants things to run quickly so people don't have to wait any longer than a couple minutes. The shrimp poses a problem, because if they cook them ahead of time, they become rubbery and he won't allow that. So that means that every time an order is placed, someone has to go cook a batch of shrimp, which takes that person off the line and slows everything down.

I understand his reasoning, but I think he is overestimating how much things will be slowed down. And, I for one, don't mind waiting on shrimp. If I get quesadillas, I'm waiting for the cheese to melt anyway, so what's the difference? The shrimp will cook in the time it takes for the cheese to melt.

I can honestly say that there are times when I want to get some shrimp tacos, so I go to Zippy's and get them, and I do so about 2-3 times a month. That's 2-3 more times per month I'd go to Izzo's if they had shrimp year round. And that's on top of the bi-weekly trips over there I make already.

If he could figure out a way to do this, he would crush people during lent/anytime of the year.

I've only had fish tacos two places in BR-Whole Foods-worst I've had in my life, and Zippy's-never really stuck out as something great.

I think folks would understand the wait for shrimp/fish if they knew it was fresh and could see it being prepared on the grill in front of them while they wait. Anticipating something like that only makes it better.

Last yr during lent the shrimp were precooked...this yr, I had to wait. They tasted about the same to me. (granted I am remembering them a yr apart and the precooked ones could have just been cooked).

The owner should get in touch w/ the people who USED to own Kokopellis...they had shrimp/crawfish precooked and those burritos were my favorite.

OK, just got word from the horse's mouth that shrimp is going full time at all the BR locations after they make some equipment changes and get the new menu boards to reflect that. It's already permanent at the New Orleans store and will be at the new locations as well.

That would make me cream myself. Sadly, I don't know where he would do it though.

Doesn't hold a candle to your average Bay Area burrito joint, but it's better than most burrito places in BR. Best burrito deal in town is still at Taco & Burrito Express on Sherwood, IMO. King Chicken burrito is money, and best bang for your buck.
