Irene’s would be on my short list
They serve the best Cioppino I can find here. I literally have returned to Irene's for this dish alone.

Wife and I went to Lilette the other night and sat in the courtyard

Quiet, good drinks, good food

Not too fancy, but a really nice evening out

In laws used to have a place uptown. We would walk to La Petite Grocery frequently for dinner and always had a great experienced. Nice food but relatively casual atmosphere compared to others suggested here.

Anyone been to Avo lately?
My favorite dish in the city is their lasagna. Hands down, incredible. My wife and I love Avo.

If you want something quaint, very good, and romantic, go literally across the street to Bistro Daisy. That place doesn’t get the recognition it deserves on here.

Wife and I are trying San Lorenzo this weekend for our anniversary dinner.

Man, San Lorenzo is great. Could be recency bias, but I think it’s better than Avo and Osteria Lupo.

Started with raw oysters - not much to expound on. Had some east coast, gulf coast, and west coast ones. All great.

Next was Apples with Anchovies - one my favorite dishes. Sweet, savory, a little crunch, a little acidity and fat. Excellent app.

Next was the Caesar Salad - they add a little chili oil on it so it has some kick, was very good. Large portion too.

I had the Saffron Orechiette pasta, I think this was my favorite of the night. My wife had the Mussels Tarantina pasta, also a very good bite.

Would definitely go back.
