then that's the perfect opportunity to short the server his/her tip if they do not give a crap or are lacking with their service. That is complete BS in a supposedly fine dining establishment.
enough customers start doing this industry-wide in BR and maybe as a whole most of them would start giving a crap again ... this is why when we go out and eat we always eat at the bar .. bartenders are older .. they almost always give a crap .. bust their arse .. and appreciate the crap out of a nice $30 tip on $100 of dinner and drinks ..

too easy for them to strive for mediocrity
Like you say, we make it so, just as we make it all so, because we accept mediocrity as the norm, and when someone actually does go above and beyond, and actually knows what the hell they are talking about and treats you professionally and like they want to do the best they possibly can, we flood them with money from on high, because we think they are really something special, when truth be known, they are just doing their job, not failing.
Expect BR to get it in about fifteen or twenty years when the whole food standards and foodie thing going on in other parts of the country finally makes it's way here, just like everything else does eventually. It takes us a while. We don't like big changes. Just baby steps Bob, baby steps.
The first step is to get people to recognize the difference in chain food or just crap food in general short cutted and dumbed down to the Nth degree, and Real food, cooked on site and by people who really do love what they do in life.
Then we can work on kicking it next level.

Probably because it's not a positive review I suppose.

Still waiting for an answer as to which three "overpriced" specials you were disappointed in, and how much they cost. The reason I'm asking is because the nightly specials are usually my "go to" entrees on any given night, and seem moderately priced. This is one part of the review that didn't seem credible IMO.

Agreed. I've had that special before and soft shell crab was the best I've ever had. If that dish didn't please, you might as well stop breathing.

I have a couple issues regarding your review.
1) It's unfair to the business how you're dealing with this issue. You should have informed the management about your concerns so they can make an attempt to satisfy you. (You said the experience wasn't bad enough too notify management but yet you feel the need to bash them publicly.) Do you know them impact these reviews can place on a business? Are you aware of the livelihoods of the workers you can be affecting?
2)"who found it important for some reason to take my full name, even though I didn't have a reservation, nor needed one at 5:30 in the afternoon."
--- Maybe they keep records of your visit and notes on your experience so they can better serve you in the future. Also, 5:30 is not in the afternoon.
3)"He stood and waited for her to move out of his way, walked in front of her, and sashayed into one of the main dinning areas. He made no attempt to pull my wife's chair out, which I did, and invited us to enjoy ourselves."
--- I'm sure the guy wasn't a jerk and did say excuse me in some way but since you were standing a few steps away letting your wife "handle the exchange", which sounds to me like something a gentlemen would do, you did not hear the hostess pardon himself. Also, why should HE pull out YOUR wife's chair? He doesn't know which seat you'll be taking. And that's YOUR job as a loving husband.
3)"My wife is not a wine snob and asked if they had a house wine, she was told 'yes' without telling us what it was. So my wife asked if it was white or red, she said 'white'. My wife then asked what is it, and the waitress said the name of the wine (I don't remember). So my wife asked is it a chardonnay or pinot grigio or, and the waitress said it was a 'Chardonnay', so my wife ordered it."
--- Sure, not a wine snob...
4) "When I go to place like Ruffino's I expect them to charge me the same for Smirnoff as Goose."
--- What??? Why??? When you go to the store, do you expect to pay the same price between the two? Ruffino's pays for the price difference too.
5) "The waitress was shaking my martini and asked, "What was it you ordered again, I can't ever remember what's in a martini. There's so many kinds."
--- Why would the waitress ask this? You're just making shite up now.
6) "The fire was blazing in the fireplace. I think it was about 99 degrees in the shade outside. People were fanning themselves with menus in the restaurant. I was okay."
--- The fire place is part of the atmosphere and if you were okay... then why is this mentioned?
7) "At which I replied, "If I allow him to grow up." I shot evil eyes towards the table, I was unable to catch anyone's eye."
--- Douche bag comment.
8)"I did not leave with $139 dollars worth of satisfaction. I was happy that I could afford to laugh that night out off. I do not plan a return trip soon."
--- This is when, a person who claims to have a good job and likes to spread his money around Baton Rouge to support local businesses, inform management and provide criticism. Instead they were misled them and you allowed them to continue working with a possibility of another customer having the same ill-experience.
Now, a thing I do appreciate from your review is your opinion about the food quality. I think that was a legit review. However, I've never been disappointed with my meals. If you like fish, you should definitely try their cedar plank redfish with crab meat.
In the future, at any restaurant, if there is something you don't agree with during your dining experience, speak to management and allow them the opportunity to make it better. I do not agree with bashing a business on a popular Baton Rouge website with out giving them the benefit first.

Talking to management would not have changed my experience. In fact, it would have only made it worse. I go out to eat for pleasure, not start any conflict.

Yes, I do. And I actually thought about that before I posted. I also think of the people that work hard for their money, and expect a certain level of quality based upon the type of restaurant they choose.

The waitress didn't seem too concerned about losing her job. And they had a bang up business after I left according to another poster.

How would they have notes of my experience? No one asked me about my meal during or afterward.
It was not in the morning, it was after 12:00 noon, does 5:30 in the evening work for you?

The story I recounted was told to me by my wife, she found it rude. So what you are sure of, is just wrong.
For not being there you sure are assuming a lot.
quote:
Also, why should HE pull out YOUR wife's chair? He doesn't know which seat you'll be taking. And that's YOUR job as a loving husband.
He doesn't have to. But other restaurants do it. And because he didn't, I stated so. To those who see that as a poor business practice, it may mean something to them.

I've been charged the same for call or no call, that was my point. So I might as well call.

No, I am not making shite up. I was there, you were not. Why would she do this? Beats the hell out of me. I was prepared to send it back until I tasted it. I liked it, I let it drop.

Because other people were hot, like my wife, and the others fanning themselves with the menu. Duhhhh

7) "At which I replied, "If I allow him to grow up." I shot evil eyes towards the table, I was unable to catch anyone's eye."

Actually I found it witty. It was dry humor, making light of an annoying situation.

Dude, I'm one drop of rain in an ocean of water. And as I said, I didn't want to talk to management. I was ready to leave and I'm old enough to realized that 99% of the time management doesn't give a shite what I think.
I've complained at other placed before over the years. I can't remember anything changing. I sent a letter to Serrano's one time. Who ever responded loved my letter and told me he was going to use it at the next staff meeting. Nothing changed there, except I quit going eventually.

That would be every time I go out then. I usually just suck it up. Like I said, if the entree hadn't so disappointing it would have made the difference. Unfortunately, the last few times at Ruff's I have been disappointed by the entrees. So, why go?

I tried it about a month ago and it needs some help! First the cedar plank was not "set" in a bed of something (mashed potatoes) so the plank slid around unevenly on the round plate the entire time while trying to eat it. Secondly, the crab mean was crap. Was supposed to be "jumbo lump" but was more like something scraped out the bottom of a tuna can from Albertsons. The actual redfish was good and well prepared albeit a little on the small side for the price.

You don't have to worry about me hanging out with the likes of you. You're way too judgmental about things that you have no first hand knowledge of. Not really a good quality for a person to have.
I see from your other post that you are quite the epicurean.
Why is your opinion more valued than mine?
Could it be because of your arrogance?

Your superior methods of deduction are astounding.
You know what's really astounding?
I give an honest review about an experience, and a guy with no post comes out of nowhere and blasts me with his very first post.
He doesn't know that a couple is only two, instead of making two points, he makes eight.
He states things that probably happened that I was unaware of. Even though I was there and he was not.
Rips me for giving a non-favorable review. Do you think this guy buys inferior automobiles or clothing so as not to send those poor workers into the unemployment line?
Thinks wine snobs order the house wine.
Couldn't grasp that I complained about the temperature in the restaurant because other people thought it was warm.
Thought a joke between my wife and I was a 'douche bag' comment.
And then blames me for not correcting the situation for others by not telling management. As if they give a flip what I think.
Then he thinks I hung the sun with my opinion of the quality of the food. If I'm so wrong on everything else, how on Earth can I be right on that one?
And then you, I guess he called you up. You find this anchored thread on page three. And tell me to go frick myself.
Really, you expect any respect for your opinion after that?
I didn't pick apart every part of the meal, I commented on the highlights. I see that you comment on the hightlights on some of your reviews.
I always try to enjoy myself when I go out. I can't help what other people do.
And why should you care how fun I am to hang out with? Are you lonely?
You two guys need to get a life. A handful of people read my review on what is just a stupid message board.
Ruff's is not hurting for business. My one review is not going to stop those who haven't tried it from trying it. Others have posted on this thread that their experience have been less than overwhelming also.
To each his own, something that you two need to learn.
