What’s the verdict on Marsh House Rum? LA product I believe?

El Dorado 12 year is fantastic. Drank some last night.
I picked some up and finally tried it last night.
Unfortunately they were all out of the Matusalem 18.

Best rum for the price is diplomatico.
I usually just put a twist of orange and a sprig of mint. Over ice.

Our latest favorite is Bacoo. Between $25-30.

Sorry to all the Ron Zacapa fans, but that stuff is fraudulent. It is not 23 years old. It is between 6-8 years old based on their drip down solera aging method. Further, it is loaded up with added sugar.
Stick to the well made sugar free carribean rums like Appleton Estate, Mount Gay, Flor de Cana, and Havana Club (technically American due to ongoing trademark dispute).

I think that is standard practice except in places where it's illegal. And most that are added come out to around 20 grams per liter/bottle. Which really isn't much considering a shot is about 40mL.
I'm with you about the 23 thing though. I think they had to remove the years from the label so they just call it 23 now. Saying something is 23 years old when you have only a drop of 23 years old rum in it is scam marketing.

Just catching up to this thread, but a rum aficionado here. Its pretty much all I drink on the rocks anymore.
First, you need to understand Jamaician Rum is different than other Caribbean rum. Its dryer, funkier, and less sweet. I do not like it as much, personally. I prefer the sweeter rums.
Diplimatco Reserva
El Dorado 12 and 15
Plantation Barbados 5 year (best value imo)
Plantation Pineapple for a change of pace
Ron Anejo carupano oro reserva 12
Pussers Nelsons Blood
Bumbu is good, it is spiced rum. Extra sweet. But Bumbu XO is garbage and not worth the money.
I know Ron Zacapa 23 is among those commonly named, but I just dont care for it. Its flavor profile is boring to me.
Captain Morgans Private Stock is actually pretty decent, and will do just fine in a pinch

I’ve not been exposed much to rum, but what I’ve had I’ve enjoyed. Appleton while in Jamaica, plantation 20th anniversary I enjoyed, and plantation Peru was very good.
My absolute favorite though... Zafiro Anejo

So I got some Richland Rum today. I’m very happy with it.
Me and the person I went with each got a different bottle. I just got the regular 7 year aged and they got a port wine infused. I did a tasting and at first was underwhelmed because the tasting glasses were not great for tasting....instead of sipping, I had to lean my head back and I had to gulp it.
Tonight though, on the rocks, I can barely tell there’s alcohol. It’s super smooth. It’s not spiced and no sugar added. The recipe is supposedly pretty much the same back to colonial Georgia times.
I will say it’s pretty fricking expensive. But if your looking for a nice clean rum, you can certainly do a lot worse

I am in a rum group with a few knowledgeable heavy hitters. The quality of rum today is becoming quite impressive. Making classic cocktails how they are supposed to be made with good rum is extremely tasty.

So what rum do you recommend to start for a bourbon drinker? Under $50
Posted on 8/22/21 at 3:25 pm to LSU6262
Eldorado 8, 12, 15 yo is fair place to start.

Came here for this. Bourbon has gotten out of hand. I'm lucky enough to get a fair amount of heavy hitters at srp, but it's getting to be a pain in the arse.

Don Papa Small Batch
Barrel aged for 7 years in american oak.
You. Are. Welcome.
It's oily like an irish whiskey with a hint of banana/banana leaves. Absolutely amazing.
Might be shitty to the professionals, but I like it.
Eta: I drink it neat. It's a little thick one the rocks.

Picked up an El dorado 15 today. I'm a whiskey guy and have never had a quality rum. This is excellent.
I have about a 60 bottle whiskey bar, looks like rums will be added.
