Kinda weird how everyone is having this take here. They have every right to request hazard pay, and Amazon should give it to them. I don't blame the workers one bit.

Not necessarily true.

The former is true, and the latter is an opinion that doesn't have to be true or false.

Let them walk out. Amazon will fire their asses like they did the guy that initiated the amazon strike.

People working in grocery stores are probably more at risk than anyone else outside of a hospital.

And because good companies take care of their people. Plenty of other retailers are giving hazard pay.

That isn't why he was fired.

quote:

After the protest Monday at an Amazon fulfillment center on Staten Island, New York, worker Christian Smalls, who had organized the protest, was fired for violating "multiple safety issues," the company said in a statement to USA TODAY. The company said it instructed Smalls to stay home with pay for 14 days due to being in close contact with an infected employee, but Smalls went to the warehouse Monday.

The guy is a moron.

Because they can easily afford to and the largest company in the country should lead by example during a national crisis.

Why shouldn't they give it to them is a better question, I am genuinely curious in your response.

This isn’t a good reason, in times of reduced economic spending, dwindling revenue, it’s hard to justify paying out additional salaries, and loading boxes isn’t hazardous work

By all accounts both Whole Foods and Amazon are seeing an increase in demand

do this and I bet the safety concern demands suddenly go away

Of course the safety concerns won’t go away. What they are communicating to their upper management is a market signal that pay should be more proportionate to risk. That’s what hazardous duty pay is all about.

The same market signal these employees are sending is identical to what CEOs of other grocery chains already anticipated and proactively initiated. Texas’s H-E-B chain for example increased everyone’s pay by $2 an hour. By getting ahead of the issue (though they did react to a petition), they reduced the groundswell for this highly predictable demand. Look for the H-E-B model of preparedness to be embraced by many others, or look for H-E-B to expand beyond Texas and Mexico. LINK

The literal opposite is happening for them so your premise is very flawed.

I’m speaking in general terms of the economy, so by your thought process, companies that are doing well should give hazard pay for a non hazardous job, what about the companies that are getting hurt and are doing the real hazardous jobs, You want something from these big companies, have them fork over some $ to the medical providers that are getting hammered right now, the ones that have contracted COVID at work, that’s where the $ need to go. I say let those fkrs walk, there’s plenty of people without a paycheck that would be happy to work in a non hazardous environment

That isn't my logic, and frankly, it's retarded. These employees are in hazardous jobs. Pay them hazard pay.

You are joking right? Lol. What about during flu season or any other thing they can possibly catch? So now anyone that works with the public deserves hazard pay because they come into contact with more people? That's the precedent we are setting.

Anyone that thinks working as a cashier deserves hazard pay is absolutely laughable.

If you are older, request to be moved to a position away from the public. If you are under 30 which a lot of cashiers are then there's absolutely nothing to be afraid of here.
