If you don’t like forced stealth and failing missions because you’ve been spotted, there are a bunch of tailing missions that you’re absolutely going to hate in Black Flag (I know I did).

I literally quit Black Flag for this reason. I HATE stealth, I hate escort missions (especially with NPC’s that don’t match your speed), and more than that I REALLY hate stealth trailing missions which are the worst of both worlds.

I like the exploration mechanics of Assassins Creed, but I hate how little I get to use them because you immediately get spotted and punished for doing so.

I’ve never been into stealthy sneak around type games. I didn’t like Metal Gear, Hitman, etc. But I played AC Valhalla and loved it because I like RPGs and that era. Beat Viking game imo. II know Valhalla got a lot of hate because it was not like the other AC games, but I guess that’s why I liked it so much. Has anyone played Black Flag and Odyssey? I heard Odyssey is similar to Valhalla in the RPG aspect, but I’ve heard great things about Black Flag too and don’t want to dismiss it before knowing more.

I’ve basicallly attempted all AC games since 2. I wasn’t a fan of the boat combat of black flag. Some people loved it. It’s very subjective.

I loved Odyssey. Valhalla was fun but I only made it about halfway through. I would try Odyssey first.

They really made the boat combat enjoyable in Odyssey.

To me it was not something I enjoyed about the game but it didn't bother me because I wasn't required to do it a ton. I was pretty neutral about it. But that type of thing isn't my thing generally. There was only a handful of times you had to do the boat combat. I appreciated that.

unless you are a huge fan of Greek stuff Black Flag is an amazing game.

If you like pirates it’s a no brainer. The best pirate video game ever.

I beat Odyssey a few times, I think I missed the window on Black Flag. I love everything about the concept of the game, but it was their first attempt at ship combat and it's not really that great (I actually like it in Odyssey), and game play wise Black Flag is really dated. It has what I refer to as "contextual stealth", meaning you couldn't crouch unless you were in high grass or something. Story and characters, Black Flag is better, but Odyssey is more fun to play. I liked Valhalla as well. Beautiful world, but confusing quest log, the large world can

I had a lot of issues going back and playing the first AC after starting with AC II

I find if I dont play a game in order it’s hard going backwards and trying to play older mechanics.

thats being said, AC III had ship battles and they were really rough.

Black Flag is waaaay better than that and honestly it is a pretty good
battle system.

You can control the ship and the cannons pretty well, and it has a nice boarding function.

AC III

That is a game that I wish they would remake using Odyssey mechanics. the late colonial/early American time period is my favorite time period and I wanted to replay this one recently. I tried and the climbing mechanics are so dated I hate it. That's my biggest gripe with older AC games and why I find it so difficult to go back and play them.

I mean the climbing in AC II is so good.

I need to sit down and play Odyssey and Valhalla.

But I found Origins got too involved in the equipment and all the side missions felt the same.

Just about finished with RE6, so I started Origins this weekend and man, that game is like crack to me. I couldn't stop playing it (the last AC game I played was Syndicate, for reference).

Me as well. Origins was probably the last game I was truly addicted to. Couldn’t stop playing it.

Glad to see I'm not alone

Can't wait to basically no-life the game this holiday weekend (outside of Saturday when I need to watch 37893 college games).

I still maintain this: the early AC games are considered more stealthy only because the combat was so horrible and no one wanted to get into an actual fight.

I prefer the simpler non leveling combat of the earlier AC games like BF as opposed to basically following the trend of other similar style combat games they started doing with later games. Just started feeling like other games instead of AC once they started doing that.

I never finished Origins, just felt like repeating the same crap over and over again and got bored.

Odyssey and Valhalla are the only ones I've never been able to finish. Too much RPG in those for me. So you'd likely like Odyssey over Black Flag I think

I tried Black Flag but couldn’t really get into it. The graphics and gameplay are dated but it’s an older game and I might have to give it another try. I beat Odyssey and liked it a lot.

Black flag is my favorite game ever. The fighting is can be a little too easy but you also get attacked by 5 at a time. But the story is great.

Black Flag. Nothing in Odyssey is better than sailing around listening to sea shanties. I liked Odyssey but it’s the first one where I felt the open world was incredibly bloated with bland, repeated content.

I found origins very very repetitive.

there was also nothing of interest outside the main story plot. I feel like I had side stuff going on in other games.

While not sea shanties, Odyssey has their own sailing songs. Its not annoying, so there's that.

Black flag is above all others, it doesn't even feel like the same universe

I might try Black Flag if they remaster it, but I'm 35 hrs or so into Odyssey and am crazy loving it.
