There's a difference between being a competitive "world first" type of player/guild and a mythic raider. My guild is far from being anything special, we kill bosses on Mythic difficulty and I'm married with two kids.
Pushing for boss kills asap is what is taxing. Raiding 3-5 days a night for 3-4 hours is what's hard on people. You can find a solid guild that raids 2 nights a week for a few hours and kill mythic content.

This. And that plays perfectly into the rise of MOBAs/Arenas. The large majority of those games are single game-centric. I can log into Smite/Paladins/Fortnite and get a similar feeling to the action/groupwork of an MMO and get it in 45 mins.
If I want the story, I'm playing an RPG. It sucks I don't get both in the same product anymore. I think pre-gated LOTRO and CoH were the best at creating engaging worlds that blend the RPG with super solid action and group fun. Loved those times.

Man you guys brought back some memories for me.
My first MMORPG was Asheron's Call. Nothing before or since has equaled the defense of the shard on Thistledown. That shite was epic.
Re-subbed to WoW. New stuff looks pretty good so far. Just trying to get caught up since I stopped playing a few months in to Legion.

Friend, I raid on Illidan. Where almost every guild is US100
Played this game since Warlocks could wear leather and I promise you at the beginning of Legion to level your artifact was a second job.

Cent, do the tree burning stuff. 210-230 gear which is Heroic Antourus level.

Did it this weekend on my main Belf paladin and my alliance alt (wanted to see both sides).
I thought the chain was really well done for both factions.
ETA: Any of you folks on Archimonde?

Nope but with the whole friends things you can essentially play with anyone anywhere.
I think Archimonde is in the same BG as Illidan though. I cant remember. We had a few Spanish servers in our BG which made pugs damn near impossible.
Hahah now I remember, we made a guild called Ragnaros Border Control

I still, on rare occasion, boot up and play some SWTOR. A lot of the side games (PVP and Starfigter PVP) are still a good bit of fun.
I was in a raiding guild there, and playing the raids on the hardest modes was just grueling. I did the same in EQ2.
So many bosses have weird triggers or places you have to stand exactly, and a slight miscalculation or distraction and the raid gets wiped by a single player.
Also, the first true raiding guild I was in from EQ2 was toxic as frick. I played a healer - Inquisitor, for those who are familiar - and was responsible for healing the group that had the mages/ranged casters in it. So I did. Not one died.
I got yelled at for not parsing as much healing as the healers in the main group. I pointed out that a lot of my attack powers also acted as debuffs (one in particular lowered the effective attack level of the creature by 5). Even the guy who always bragged about his Inquisitor before I came along never knew that; it didn't stop them from bitching when an item I actually wanted came up and I bid for it and won.
So, yeah. I learned my lesson back then that raiding guilds can be toxic as shite and to enter them very slowly and carefully. Be it EQ2, WoW (did some tier 2 level raids back in the 60-cap days with my druid), or SWTOR, the lesson learned was that most people are piles of shite OR will let piles of shite walk all over them.

I did good DPS back in WoTLK and Cata days on my Hunter. Can't DPS for shite now. Has a lot to do my inexperience after returning from long breaks but also due to Blizzard nerfing the class repeatedly and totally redesigning the class every expansion.

Warlocks never wore leather.

quote:Eh, that entirely depends on your guild. With M+ dungeons being a thing, getting the gear to have the numbers to be effective in that type of content has never been easier. If you can find a guild that's consistent and actually decent at the game, it's not that bad. Like someone stated, there's a difference in being a "clear mythic content as soon as it comes out" player and a "mythic raider".

When I was guilded up, it was always "clear mythic content as soon as it comes out."
Never really could do the casual but "get there when we get there" type raiding.

That's the kind of shite that has kept me in more social guilds for all these years.

That this thread turned into a WoW discussion proves my point.
